1. How did you deduce the version of Alsa he is using? Sarge has 1.0.8-7. The latest /stable/ release according to http://www.alsa-project.org/ is 1.0.8 2. Debian "sarge" is pretty decent. 3. Slackware sucks. ;-) HSRai, try a 2.6 kernel. Alsa drives are included in this version of the kernel.
