It could be that Gmail's POP3 server does not have the UIDL command
implemented. In which case, you are helpless :) Check Gmail's settings
page - there are some configuration options that control which emails
your POP client gets to see.

Oops. mutt -f pops://pop.gmail.com (Note the 'pops'). You need to have
an SSL-enabled Mutt.
