AUTHFAIL does not mean connectivity problems. Gpop is rejecting your user ID/password. At the +OK Gpop prompt, try: USER <your gmail ID> PASS <your gmail password> And see why it is rejecting. Most probably you have not enabled POP3 access for yourself in Gmail's settings.
