Aha. Now we know the problem. You should be OK if you add pop.gmail.com to your /etc/hosts to the 127.0.0.1 line and poll pop.gmail.com instead of localhost. The CN mismatch, plus your sslcertck option together is causing fetchmail to reject the server.
