I completely overlooked it.. probably because it wasn't
*highlighted* in your original post ;)
But does the OS really go down to the physical level if the i/f is
bound to the IP ? OR does it still loopback via the network layer ?
Actually, once you know that 192.168.x.y is your own address, there is no
need for the OS to go down to the PL. But I am not sure exactly what
happens.
A NIC has only 1 cable (ie either BNC or RJ45 conn) to do sends
and receives. So with 1 NIC only,and no cables, (even if you attach one
end of the cable, where does the other end go ?) how would you "float" a
data bit in the "Ethernet " ? And have some kindof IP matching and packet
grabbing ? These functionalities of the card might be absent /
malfunctioning , so it wouldn't be possible to check them.
My "guess" is that once an IP is bound to an i/f, the packets are
looped back via the Network layer. This is just a "guess", pl correct me,
if otherwise.
