Hi

Don't know if I can get any help with this. I've tried the Debian
laptop list and they have helped but can't really tell me anything
about Irda with Debian GNU/Linux. I normally use SuSE Linux but
thought I'd try Debian 2.2 potato on my other hard disk with a 2.4.3
kernel which works fine with Reiser FS.

In the interests of getting things working I've tried to compile a
2.4.10 and 2.4.18 kernels. Complete waste of effort. Either they
wouldn't compile or they didn't support Reiser FS. So, back to the
2.4.3 kernel once again and recompile so that Irda support is
included.

After rebooting I see that my PCMCIA drivers are working fine and
Irmanager starts at boot time. After I've logged in I can do

modprobe irda
modprobe irtty
modprobe ircomm
modprobe ircomm-tty

If I then do 'cat /proc/sys/net/irda/discovery' I just get a '0' on
the next line. I've sorted out /etc/irda/drivers so that it points
at /dev/ttyS0. If I do 'irdadump' the command line freezes up until
I do 'Ctrl-c'. If I restart irmanager then the same things happen.

Does anyone out there have any idea what might be happening here ?
My main problem is that I can't find anyone who uses Irda on a Debian
laptop and so it's very hard to get some sort of clue as to where I
might have gone wrong.

Thanks
