        Hi again,

I sent an e-mail a couple of day ago to the mailing list, and
as I didn't see any answer, you will find a copy below. I don't know
if you did address the issues listed there, so tell me about it.

So, now, a few random thoughts :
o I'll look at the patch soon, but diff of diffs is hard to read :-(
o I think it's about time to update the kernel. We start to
have accumulated a rather large and essential patch, and putting
everything in the kernel will allow us to have a checkpoint and
restart hacking from a stable base. Moreover, we need to commit those
changes before 2.4.0-final.
o Check if the problem below (net_device->name) is fixed.
o I don't use the latest irda-utils, but some people here have
been complaining about them. If I've got time, I may investigate.
o What is your timescale for IrNET inclusion ? IrNET has been
running stable here for quite a while and is quite independant from
the rest.
o Update irda-utils/irsockets with various junk (irprintf, squirt...)
o There are still some weirdness about socket use. See example
of program that crash sockets on my web pages.
o Multi-link makes the IrDA stack flaky.
o USB dongles. I can do some testing (Actisys + ESI).
o If you come back to California, I can make you a demo of
IrNET that will blow you away ;-)

        Have fun...

        Jean

        - Misc of other fixes

I would like to point your attention on the fix I did in
irtty.c. The definition net_device->name has change from char * to
char[IFNAMSIZ] in 2.3.99. The end result is that the code in each low
level driver is wrong.
The behaviour is that the resulting device is always called
"irda" instead of "irda0", irda1, ... Really annoying if you have
multiple link layers.
In my patch, I've fixed only irtty, but clearly all the low
level IrDA drivers should be fixed (irmod, smc, nsc...).

I plan to test your patch later (even though I've tested my
part intensely). The patches from Russel look promising. I've got a
demo tommorow, so I don't want to screw up my laptop today...

        Have fun...

        Jean
