I got an Adtran Express3000 http://www.adtran.com/ for free (yeah,
right) with my ISDN service. It took me a while to get it working
right, but it is absolutely splendid now. The biggest problem I had was
with the serial port. Ended up splurging for a fancy serial card
http://www.turbocom.com/ and having to figure out how to make it work
under Linux myself. They mention that it will work with Linux, but of
course give no useful info. Let me know if you are interested in this
and I can help you set it up...it's very simple once you see how to do
it and know what arguments to send setserial. It's a real bummer trying
to figure them out for yourself <G>.
Personally, I like the external modem now that I have it. It is very
easy to take it and try it on another machine without shutting anything
down. Hope my next one is attached to a cable company though.
Good luck.
