Thanks for your thoughts, it looks as if I am going to have to
go to
another distribution. That in effect defeats the purpose of the
installation, i.e. to find out a little and have a reliable pc
environment lying around for my kids :-(
I had Redhat 5.1 on one of the machines, and it ran ok. But I
made the
mistake of buying the disk only. So I got the Suse set.
