ThinkPad: Linux and Windows?

Hello,
I'm a windows user, but I'm very interesting to the Linux
world and I wuold like to install on my ThinkPad 760ED
a version of that.
Many people has advised me Red Hat Linux, but I'm not sure.
How do you do about?
I like to run on my laptop RHLinux and Windows9.x. Is it possible?
