me and a friend of mine both use redhat 6.0 on a toshiba 320 CDT with a xircom realport ethernet and modem adaptor. the problem is this: we use this thing a the university on the network, but for getting an ip-adress we have to connect to a dhcp server (NT) With me it works properly, this NT server matches MAC adress and hostname to give you an IP. With this friend of mine we seem to have made all the proper settings, using netcfg, but it doesn't work, I get an IP just by turning on my computer and booting linux , he has to run ifup eth0 to get his IP. Does anyone know what we are doing wrong here, we want to get this IP at boot..... so you don't have to login as root to run the ifup command......? Also I have another question, because I also use my computer at home, there I use an IP in the 192.168 range, how can I configure my networking to work properly at home and at school with just one netconfig? At home I don't use the DHCP services...... Pieter Brakenhoff student computer science at the university of Eindhoven. ICQ #627535
