Some (all?) IBM laptop drives appear to have an optional on-drive password
which would mean no access unless you dismantle it and change the firmware,
but I guess this requires BIOS support in your machine. IBM ThinkPads
support it.

and download a huge pdf file of the complete specs for the disk you want.)
