I did something similar.  It didn't seem to be worth the effort to figure
out how Red Hat or the pcmcia package wanted it done.  My laptop moves
around quite a bit and could be on the ethernet at home, at work, at any
of our many POPs, or dialed in via its internal modem.  All it takes to
get on a different ethernet is an ifconfig and one or two route commands.
