To: Adrian Jensen, Mitja Pufic and G.Lautenbach: Thank you for your help; problem solved. I knew about fdisk & mbr from the distant past and tried it a number of times thus: fdisk mbr. No workee and no /! Duh. Doing it right did the trick. The hard drive in question has been idle for two years and for some reason I decided to use it again(?). We have three (!) other working machines and all have Linux installed and working. Slackware 1.2.3 on a 386 with 20Mb RAM, another FOSA notebook 100Mhz Pentium with 40Mb RAM and Slackware 2.0.30 and a 500Mhz Intel with Debian 2.2.12. Do I need Linux on this machine with 4Mb RAM? Negative. It was s l o w due to the frequent use of the Swapfile when it worked in the past. The important thing is that we removed the bit of LILO from the mbr and now the HardDrive may be used again! Again, many thanks for your assistance. R.H.Armstrong South Colby, Washington.
