Hello all,

I just get Linux (RedHat 6.1) working on my brand new laptop.
I would like to use my modem under linux now, but I do face the following
problem:
Apparently pcmcia loads ok, even cardctl detect my modem ... fine
But when I try to use this modem, it fails. I use C-kermit and when
I do the 'set line /dev/ttyS1' I get a:

/dev/ttyS1 is not a terminal device
  Sorry, can't open connection: /dev/ttyS1

Following the PCMCIA Howto TroubleShooting, I used `setserial` to use irq 0.
Then I could have the modem working. According to this same PCMCIA Howto, this
is likelly to show a IRQ conflict.
I tried to exclude the irq used by pcmcia at boot time (irq 3), it then uses
irq 9, but the problem remains. I excluded irq 9, then 10, then ... but
my problem is still there, whatever irq is used.
Do anybody have an idea of what I could no investigate to solve this
problem?

Thanks in advance for any hints.

                Gerald Carrier.
