NIC help for compiling driver

Finally found possible source for the 3C575-TX 3COM PCMCIA card in my laptop. Recently installed RedHat Linux 6.1
 
DO I really need to recompile the entire kernel to support it or is it possible to just compile the specific driver for this one.
 
After that, how do I go about getting it to work?
 
The HOWTO definitely is not written for newbies. =}
 
Fairly new to Linux but old hand with PCs with Win.
