Hi,
I just went through this drill yesterday. First I downloaded the latest driver from dell, try "www.dell.com", <support>, <downloads>, then in the download window "Search for files by description" search for "linux". This should get you to a page of downloadable drivers for linux. Locate "linux 3com 3c575 NIC drivers [ linux /version 1.1.i386] and download the rpm file. You can then install it using "rpm -ivv i753c757.rpm". Second I downloaded the most recent pcmcia drivers. Go to "www.google.com" and search for "pcmcia linux". In the results of this search, locate "pcmcia.sourceforge.org" and go there. Locate the download file "pcmcia-cs-3.1.9.tar.gz" and get it. Expand the tar file with "tar -zxvf pcmcia-cs-3.1.9.tar.gz" and read the install instructions. If you do not have the linux kernel sources on you hard disk, you must load them from the CDROM. To build the pcmcia module, you need the linux kernel sources... but you are not building a new kernel, just a new module for the pcmcia functions. Following these steps yesterday, I was able to get the 3Com Fast ethernet card model 3CCFE575CT-D running using the 3C575 driver. Good Luck

Recently installed RedHat Linux 6.1 DO I really need to recompile the entire kernel to support it or is it possible to just compile the specific driver for this one. After that, how do I go about getting it to work? The HOWTO definitely is not written for newbies. =} Fairly new to Linux but old hand with PCs with Win. Thanks,Daryl. |
