Connecting via mobile phone to the internet

Can any one point me in the direction of good resources that will help
me put together         a laptop with a gsm mobile phone and get it
connected
to the internet with ppp. I haven't got the hardware yet so specifics
aren't required.

I have experience with linux and the internet but have never tried
connecting
via mobile phones.

I would like to use red hat 6.? for the o/s though.
