Actually, sorry, this wasn't necessarily clear for me, possible because I
didn't explain well. I have a Nokia 8210 with IR. I use it with the data
suite etc as a modem from windows off my boat here in Paris. I would *love*
it if it could work with Linux just for occassionally grabbing mail and
sending SMS messags etc.

Can someone tell me whether I can support this as a modem directly (via PPP)
from Linux (RH 6.1 with 2.2.16 kernal)? I've got it working in Windows, but
the setup seems much simpler. I gather gnokii does not support the IR
interface at the moment. =< Can the IR HOWTO Help me? =}

The modem option doesn't work yet afaik. The Motorola 7089/7389 work fine
too using IrDA. Try the IR-HOWTO.
