I have been using LVM for well over a decade. It is quite robust and does an extremely good job. Biggest thing to look out for is to only use LVM on single disks or RAID backed storage. Do not use LVM across multiple non-RAID disks, as it is the equivalent to RAID 0 (you lose one disk and you lose everything). ..Ch:W.. -- "An idea does not gain truth as it gains followers."
