You probably should upgrade from NS 4.01 to 4.05 of 4.5 (I had the same
problem with 4.01)

You can buy Partition Magic.

It's called WINE. See http://www.winehq.org/, I think.

Yes, and all Linux distributions come with X. Some also come with KDE
or GNOME. See www.kde.org and www.gnome.org to find out what they
are (neither of them are replacements for X, and neither of them are
"window managers").

Well, the important thing is to *be specific*. Nobody can tell

site, including pnm://video.real.com/welcome.rm
Redhat 5.2 (kernel 2.0.36) gives the following
error:

sometimes 128 bytes, depending on the site).

In these cases, the "." character does not indicate end-of-sentence. Shall

Your redundancy isn't. Your lack of capitalization would imply that you're

And when it comes to non-programming issues, I really don't give a f**k

SCO or Solaris will do the trick also?
And with most ISP's you can ask if you can put your own server there in
their place onto the backbone. This costs slightly more then leasing

Going through the tortures of the damned, no doubt. Using a modal
editor after having been brought up on modeless editors can be a
mighty uncomfortable feeling.
Whatever editor you use should probably depend on what your plans
are. Time spent learning vi or emacs can be time well-spent. When I
first started out, I thought emacs was a nightmare. It was all I
could do to figure out how to get out of the damned thing. However, I
persevered and now I am a complete emacsmaniac.
One of these days, I'll get around to learning vi -- now, I only use
it for the occasional one-line changes in config files. I <still>

One thing to remember -- vi and emacs skills are portable. They're
ubiquitous in the unix world. Those "other editors" aren't.

I have mgetty on one of my systems handling ppp dialin connections. The lines
seem to be very unstable. Users connect and the line disconnects or becomes
stale but still alive within about 5 min. I have USR 56k modems. I have tried
port speeds at all levels. and a couple of differnt inits for the modems.
Also, the modems to seem to be reseting properly once the line is droped. I
would like advise from anyone having even the slightest clue as to what the
problem may be. An init string. A configuration change. Even different
modems. I am just at my wits end and in desperate need of advise. Thank you.

Try to avoid conversion. You can use TrueType fonts in X with an X font
server like xfsft (http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jec/programs/xfsft/) or
xfstt. (xfsft has also been incorporated in some recent XFree86 binaries
I've seen, but I have no URL offhand.) TrueType fonts can also be used
directly by Ghostscript.
If you must convert (say, to use the fonts with WordPerfect), try
http://www.netspace.net.au/~mheath/ttf2pt1/ for a freeware TT-to-Type 1
converter.

Unfortunately, fonts under X are trickier than they are in Windows, OS/2,
or MacOS, so be prepared to spend some time learning how to do this.
One of the best approaches to getting readable screen fonts is to install
a good TrueType font server. Some recent builds of XFree86 now include
this by default, so you might hunt for one of these (I've no URLs handy,
offhand). Otherwise, look into xfsft
(http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/jec/programs/xfsft/) or xfstt. Once you've
got that up and running, look for Microsoft's free (but not
redistributable) "web fonts" at
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fontpack/default.htm; these are very
good at screen resolutions, and can be used in Netscape by setting the
appropriate "Preferences" item.
Short of using TrueType fonts, you can add your Ghostscript fonts to your
FontPath and create appropriate fonts.dir entries for them, and use them.
I don't have any URLs handy to describe how to do this, though.
