Have you been messing around installing glibc-2?

Linux doesn't automatically add the current directory you're in to the
executables path. Either add the directories these programs reside in to
your $PATH environment variable...
Or, you need to specify the path of the executable.
(If you're in the directory, you can use ./xwp (for example).

Kernel 2.2.3 has all kinds of support for Parallel devices, but as of yet, I
have been able to find a configuration that will run my old, discontinued,
Eagle Exabyte TR-3 Parallel port Travan 3 drive.
Does anyone know of a driver, or a combination of kernel options and drivers
that might actually get this beast running, and backing up my Linux boxes.
This is the last Windows-era piece of hardware that I have been unable to get
running under my now complete M$ free LAN.
Eventually I am just going to buy a completely Linux supported Travan drive
(any suggestions?), but I would at least like to give this a good shot.
Surely someone out there has one of these tape drives, and has gotten it
spinning?
Any help is appreciated.

NT sees everything as a SCSI device, even IDE hard disks...
Could you be more precise about the cd-rom model? Linux supports several old
proprietary drives, maybe yours is one of them.

I see... you have the one and the only set of circumstances
allowed to exist, and anyone who prefers a different
configuration is nuts and not really using trn at all eh? neat.
However, the original question had to do with the overview file
download taking a long time, and you commented that trn, as you
have it configured, takes a long time to initialize and is fit
only for use at 10Mbps bandwidths available when the server is
on an ethernet with the client.
If *you* want to run trn in the slowest possible way, be my guest.
(You _would_ do better with a 100Mbps network, or at least a DS3
connection, you know.)
However, I have no need for threading, particularly given the
600ms ping times that I mentioned via a satellite connection.
As a result my overview file download times are considerably
reduced.
As to the -q option, years ago when there were 100 newsgroups I
used to let (t)rn tell me about new groups (and this was before
NNTP, when the server was not only on the same ethernet, but in
my case on the same host). Somewhere between there being 100
newsgroups and one day there being 15,000 newsgroups I stopped
using that method to find new groups. You, however, are
entitled to do it which ever way you like!
Rather than discuss the way to match your circumstances to trn,
how about we help the person who asked how to match *his*
circumstances to trn...

Subject: LILO on /dev/sda6 (ASUS P2B-DS, 2xSCSI disk)
Date: 19 Mar 1999 08:12:00 GMT
Hi,
I have a problem with LILO. I want to have it on /dev/sda6 and let it
boot /dev/sda2 (W98) and /dev/sda3 (NT4).
This doesn't work on my system with ASUS P2B-DS and two SCSI disks.
What happens is that when configuread as meant (/dev/sd6 active, LILO on
/dev/sda6), the system won't boot.
When I install LILO on /dev/sda things look better. Linux boots fine.
NT4 however, starts a boot sequence but the gives me the BSOD with some
message that it coudn't find the boot device. Ok, silly NT4.
I think I have RTFM. But I still don't know what's going on. If you
know, by all means, speak your mind!!
Right now I have NT4's boot manager successfully configured to boot the
three OSes but I feel -say- akward with this situation. I include a
summary of my configuration.
Cheers,
Vincent Zocca

Is there a simple way of installing Linux on a laptop not as a
separated OS partition?
I have Hebrew Win 95, a problematic version of Win95 and it is stable
now, so I will not risk adding partitions and OS, but I want to
exercise UNIX using Linux.
I have heard of such tools but need to know if any one experienced an
easy and smooth installation, before I jump into the water.

Sounds like you have used LILO incorrectly. Try FDISK /MBR from DOS.
If that works, read the LILO manual about six times - the safest config
is (a) put the LILO code in the Linux partition and use activate, if
necessary, to make that bootable - this doesn't touch the MBR except to
set the active partition flag - or (b) boot Linux off a floppy until you
know more about what is going on.

They're all like RedHat in that area, yucky. Not only is that init
setup about 20x slower, it is very un-intuitive as to how to add new
commands to the structure....I looked in verious docs which didn't tell
me, so I gave up...deleted the system and installed slackware, which any
newbie could get into and edit the init (adding new commands or changing
command line) the first try just by looking at it...which is exactly how
I learned how to do it.

OK, I give up I searched high and low through a complete install of
Redhat 5.2 looking for the source code for the function "getopt" as
declared in "/usr/include/unistd.h"
I've even resorted to the following exhaustive search "which failed" so
I suspect it must be in some obscure src rpm which I've missed
installing.
locate . | while read i; do if [ `grep -ls getopt $i` ]; then echo $i;

Please also reply to my email address as I can't always read newsgroups.
