I realize this is herasy (sp?) to say on the linux newsgroup. But
MSDEV is one of the best compilers / debuggers I have ever used.
After using it for a while you realize how bad most everything else
is. I program on linux / X etc. quite a bit, but nothing is as easy
as using msdev on winbloze for programming.

Just for my own entertainment I tried to compile a kernel under mkLinux
and I seem to recall it worked (this was about 5 months ago). The
problem is mkLinux does not use the normal Linux kernel tree, the
mkLinux kernel is the CMU mach microkernel and Linux runs as an
application on top of it. The upshot is you'll have to seek yoiu
answers from the mach kernel hackers since ip-masq will have to run in
the "Linux application" that is written to run on the mach kernel. A
possible source of wisdom may be found at:

I was able to compile a fortran program which includes a

call getarg(i,infile)

so, in principle, it should work.

I know, not much of a help, but I dont do fortran.

You probably should upgrade rpm, but not to that particular
version, which hasn't been "new" for years. Get a recent version
from any redhat mirror, but avoid the 2.9 versions which are
still under development.

I tried it under Win98 and its really cool. It places the
windows directly onto the desktop. You work as if you
were on the Unix-workstation, except that you have the
Win98 desktop.
I tried it under Win95, where it opened a big window,
and placed the Unix-windows (xterm,..) into this big
window. Had some problem with gimp, but I didn't
look further on this. I don't know why it behaves differently
on the Win95 and Win98.

I tried Opera a while back. It was OK, but nothing
special. IIRC, it didn't support Java or plugins (maybe
that's changed now) and I decided if/when I want pretty
pictures and all the other bells and whistles I'll use
Netscape and for quick-n-dirty text access I'll use lynx.
Opera just seemed superfluous.

OK, I use Sane under Suse6, and it works fine. There are
a few things that you need to do.

1. Determine which generic scsi device is assigned to
the scanner at boot time. You can see these in /var/log/boot.msg
or at boot time. This will be either sga - sgd or sg0 - sg4.

2. Say it comes up with scanner is found at sgb, then you are
using sg1. If it's sga, then you are on sg0. Get the relationship?

3. Now do
 ln -s /dev/sg1 /dev/scanner
this creates the symbolic link to the scanner

4. Then
chmod 777 /dev/sg1
this allows everyone to use it

5.Now setup Gimp to use it for importing.
cd $HOME/.gimp/plug-ins
ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/xscanimage xscanimage

Redhat may have xscanimage somewhere else, so check the path.

Now you can run xscanimage from an xterm.
Or you can run Gimp, and acquire a scanner image

Well I must mention that I had all sorts of trouble with Netscape 4.5
under suse5.3.
Suse6 comes with the unsupported glibc version of 4.5, and it
runs fine. There is no problem at freshmeat with this version.

You have to edit the makefile. Find the area where it defines
the library locations. It gives a couple of lines of instruction
on how to find the libraries. Then you need to define the
library directory and the one above it.

When I install Linux the network sets up fine. However,
with in 24 hours of configuring the

What is causing this, and how do I get my device back?
Also, there is a ifcfg-eth0 file in

And all the information in it is correct.

Severe,
Many thanks for the information, I'll give it a try later
tonight.
Cheers,

Of course; this happens because AfterStep handles those clicks, and as
long as it isn't Gnome compliant, the AfterStep root menu will have
got absolutely nothing to do with the Gnome menu.

That's because it doesn't understand Gnome WM hints.

This isn't possible. The applets interface heavily with the panel
using CORBA; as long as the AfterStep Wharf isn't Gnomified and
CORBAised, this won't work.

With some GTK and Enlightenment theming, the "look" surely is
possible. But anyway, I think someone out there is writing a "Gnome
Dock". Keep your eyes open.

Heve a look at /etc/fstab and check whether the CD gets mounted with
either the "user" or "noexec" option. If it is "user", add "exec"; if
it is "noexec", remove it. If it is neither - no idea.
