No, `+' means at least one of the previous characters. `*' means 0 or
more, as you point out. `?' means optional for the previous
character, e.g., `colou?r' to match both `color' and `colour' but not
`colouur'.

I wanted to try it and paid 8$ or what ever and it never arrived a call
and a couple of emails later I was told that it shipped Nov 18 '98 and
it never arrived. All I got was an 8$ charge on the credit card a long
distance bill and no software. Caveat emptor.

I recently discovered latex2html on my PC (w/ S.u.s.e. 5.3) but ran
into trouble using it to convert my LaTeX docs to html. For some
reason, it refuses to invoke LaTeX to convert math equations to
embedded gif images, which is what I understand is supposed to happen.
Instead, it simply encodes a poor approximation of the equation as
pure HTML. That is, it gets the superscripts and subscripts right but is
unable to do anything with special math symbols, instead leaving some
cryptic residue involving the '&' symbol.

When I run the 'install-test' script, it claims to find all of the
needed utilities (TeX, LaTeX, gs, etc.). But running

        latex2html test.tex

fails (without comment) to invoke LaTeX for the embedded math stuff, e.g., :

        \documentclass{article}
        \begin{document}

        Here is some text.

        Here is an equation that should be typeset into an embedded
        GIF image :

        \begin{equation}
        y = \int_0^\infty x \;dx
        \end{equation}

        \end{document}

I have tried multiple variations on the above theme, all with the same
non-result. What's going on? The troubleshooting docs only address
the case that the DVI-PS-GIF conversion fails to execute for some
reason, not the case that LaTeX fails to get called.

        thanks

Personally, I think emacs is the ultimate in overbloat, but if you like
it, go for it. At least you'll get lots of finger exercise, doing those
ctrl+meta+alt+left-shift key combos. :-)

I'm extremely happy to see Tucows doing this, and am impressed with the site,
but the ratings could use a bit of work.

Sounds like you formatted over the copy of the old MBR, but
that's OK; few try to reuse it anyway.

To replace the LILO MBR with a M$ MBR, use M$'s "fdisk /mbr"
command.

I use ApplixWare 4.1 at school and it works great. It uses a different
approach,
i.e. doesn't offer an integrated desktop (which I like). The programs in the
suite are very capable and should satisfy your needs. They are on a par with
the
programs in the StarOffice suite.

What I don't know is if there is a capability to import documents from
Microsnot
Office, but that information is probably available at the company's website.

That's my (very brief) opinion...

Samba allows your Linux box to "masquerade" as a Windows machine
on a network... I'm using it very successfully at home to share
my Linux partition out to my NT laptop, etc.. From the Windows
side, what you see is a "standard" Windows networked machine, and
you can connect to the shares and so on as you would normally.

Bullshit! You need to read up on your American history.
The poor mistreated savage was responsible for a number
of attrocities upon women and children. These were wars
where the Indian had a chance to fight back.

This crap about the poor mistreated red man is bunch of
bogus drivel promulgated by the usual history revisionists.

Did we take their land? Yep sure did. Was it genocide?
Nope sure wasn't. The indian was just as treacherous as
the white man, maybe even more so. The only difference
was that they were way out numbered and they really had no
war fighting experience of the type needed to win the type
of war the White man waged. IF these 2 factors were reversed
I guarantee you we would all be living in teepees today.

Yes it is FAT32. I just tried your suggestion. It seemed to work the
first time I booted win95 and then Linux. Linux booted correctly all
the way through. So I tried it again...Booted windows then Linux. No
go. Same problem. One thing was different the first time, might mean
nothing. I used 'rmmod' to unload the vfat module, then rebooted into
windows, then Linux. This worked. Another round of reboots and Linux
*doesn't* boot. I don't really think this is the cause but can someone
tell me how to prevent the vfat module from loading during boot up? Is
it a config file I need to edit?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi there! I've been using NT for the last couple of months, because I
already understand how to operate it, and I didn't want to run
something as bad a WinBlows 9x on such a nice box. Ideally, I'd like
to run Linux and X, but I have a few questions.
1) Is SCSI as easy under Linux as it is under NT. I.E. I plug in a
SCSI zip drive, and provided that it's set to a valid SCSI ID, it
works, without any drivers or anything. If I have support for my SCSI
card compiled as part of the kernel, will it recognize my ZIP drive as
a removeable drive, and my CD-R as a WORM, or at least a read-only
media drive?
2) I heard someplace that NetGear had some really good 10/100Mbit
NICs, that had features that were lacking on the 3Com Etherlink XL,
and Intel 10/100 TX cards. Has anybody heard about this?
Thanks a bunch,
