The other question is whether or not these resets will assert the RESET line
to the processor or just the INIT line (the INIT line is asserted in the case
of a fast/hot reset). To disable this feature, the RESET line needs to be
asserted, not the INIT line.

Subject: Netshow and Linux Multimedia
Date: Wed, 24 Mar 1999 03:43:17 GMT
Dear friends:
I wholeheartedly agree with the person who complaind that I had posted too
many messages concerning Netshow, etc. First and foremost, he is right
because Netshow for Linux, if such exists (as appears to be the case -- see
the sites in Taiwan and Italy referred to in my earlier posts here and on
the "misc" newsgroup) is already Linux and so would, if it really worked,
not need Wine. I think got the issue a little confused. However, I have
posted another message or two asking if there is a native Linux counterpart
to Netshow that could play their asf or is it asx files. I think Multimedia
is important enough to us to justify such a request. Most of my Russian
multimedia (audio and video) comes, thank God, from RealPlayer and I am
awaiting with great anticipation the arrival of Real G-2 for Linux, which,
I have been told by an official at RealPlayer, will be "soon" (that was two
weeks ago). I am also thrilled to see that there is a native Linux player
that will play QuickTime and AVI and other audio and video files, though
not necessarily streaming audio and video.
I will finally receive my Red Hat Linux 5.2 from Cosmos Engineering (LOAD)
tomorrow by UPS (it was shipped out Friday). I am very much looking forward
to an all-Linux system. The many wonderful and very generous reports from
so many splendid Linux specialists that I have received make me feel very
excited about crash-free computer life.
For those of you who are Linux experts, may I ask that you take a serious
look at the Taiwan and/or Italian sites where Netshow for Linux is indeed
available (see my other posts for full details). I am very curious to know
if Microsoft has indeed produced a Netshow for Linux and then "buried" it
in nearly accessible sites overseas. I found them by accident while doing a
search on Copernic98. If this Linux Netshow is the real thing and works
without causing complications for Linux, then that would be another feather
in Linux's cap and would help expand the resources for multimedia
experience available to Linux users.
Thank you all once again for your truly "legendary help."

No, ibm.net does not offer this service. They don't have to.
The service is entirely managed by your own home linux installation.
all you need is a dialup connection. As long as you can upload

I just picked up on this thread, and wanted to chime in about the 640.
I hope that is what is being discussed. Basically, I like it. I use the
stcolor & st800 & uniprint. I can get 180x180, 360x180, 360x360,720x720,
and 1440x720. The color thingie is most noticable for me with the
offshades,
or inbetween the basic colors. I notice this in both Linux and Win98.
The
ink cost is, I agree, very reasonable. Heck, I paid 170 bucks for mine
and
for that it is a good printer. Maybe the best for the price.

I don't have any of the thread any more, but it's true. MS Netshow has

believe. But the page on their site is in disrepair -- its links are dead.
There are no references to it on their FTP site. But, in the ls-lR, I
found this:
-rwxrwxrwa 1 0 0 9330823 Dec 23 22:16 fp30.linux.tar.Z
In the frontpage directory. For running FrontPage server, I guess (I

I don't need A3D support or anything like that. The Open Sound System
drivers don't support the Aureal Vortex Chipset yet, and I tried all the

Hi Ying. It's the middle one you want - ghostview. The reason you

Hello,
I want to upgrade my egcs from the ancient version
that Red Hat provides (why do they do that?); however,
I also want to do work in KDE/QT. The KDE RPM's for
Red Hat were build with an old libstdc++, the one that
Red Hat provides. I can't just upgrade the compiler.
Has anyone else gone through this? How did you do it?
I'd like a few pointers before I begin d/l'ing and
trying to rebuild KDE/Qt.
Current versions of egcs/libstdc++:
egcs 1.0.3, libstdc++ 2.8.0
Current version of QT:
libqt 1.42
Desired version of egcs/libstdc++
egcs 1.1.1, libstdc++ 2.9.x
Any pointers would be great. I already tried just upgrading the
compiler/libraries with some RPM's contributed to Red Hat, but
they bombed the existing c++ libs and KDE wouldn't load (fortunately
I had my Red Hat CD around to reload the RPM's).
Thanks for your help :)

I would be in heaven.}

NO, you export the file in ascii text format and usr nroff/troff to message

Hello Robert,
you may first try to get into the ADAPTEC-Bios at boot-time (with <CTRL>A)
and check the adapter setting, as TERMINATION, maximum transferspeed,
disconnect/reconnect, ....
Do you have the EZSCSI-Package from Adaptec? Is it possible, to install
WIN-NT
onto a scratch disk and check the streamer with the NT- or
EZSCSI-Backupsoftware?
Did you check termination of the SCSI-bus (should be activ) and SCSI-cables.
If possible,
try changing terminator(s) and cable. At least
What error-messages did you get, what tape did you use? Have you tried with
a tape of a different vendor?
Bernd

Sorry for duplicate postings.
There's no mention of any sg* at all either during bootup or in
/var/log/messages. It appears that for some reason Linux is not seeing the
scanner or its proprietary HP card.

Sorry for duplicate postings.
When I enter xscanimage in an Xterm,
I only get a choice of the two "fake" or "dumb" scanners; my scanner does not
show up as a choice.
As I mentioned to another poster, no scanner device shows up during boot or in
/var/log/messages.
Thanks for trying to help.

Is the lp module loaded?
