I did this a few months ago and then had to re-install Wabi.

Someone told me to create a link to one of the Wabi directories and it
would turn on sound.

It worked, but now I don't remember how to do it. Any ideas???

It depends, I just installed SuSe 6.0 and thought that I saw bus mouse in the options.
But, when in doubt, a serial mouse works every time..

I think Netscape 4.5 for linux (unsupported glibc version) will
resume an interrupted download. At least I think it does.
Anyone know for sure?
I was downloading StarOffice (about 70 meg) and I got
knocked offline after about 10 megs. When I went back
to resume, Netscape 4.5 didn't ask to "overwrite the file",
it just showed a very high download speed as it "verified"
what I had, then it's speed dropped to normal modem rates
as it resumed.

I just caught the last bit of this conversation and wonder if it's
something I've got going on that I havent't found the answer to yet:

Somehow any new files created by any user are defaulting to root as the
owner. eg. I log in as user, then do "touch delme.txt". delme.txt will
have the correct umask values (644) and group=user, but owner = root.

Is this at all related to your previous conversation?

Again, sorry if it's not pertinent .. I didn't catch the first bit..

Any info anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

rsync is closest to what you want.

rdist and cvsup are more configurable and each has advantages in some
situations.

You can also use GNU tar.

And, of course, you can use make itself, if the Makefile's in your
source tree are set up correctly. I use this for updating web sites.

That's easy, just restore your backup ;-)

Oh, you your backup is broken, too?
Then maybe Undelete MiniHowto

you some advice.

But be aware. Even for a technically savvy person it is not easy to restore
just most of a deleted file, not to mention everything.

I don't know about the KDE part (I don't use KDE) but if you
installed Star Office using the "./setup /net" option to
support multiple users, there should be a ~/Office50/...
directory tree in your home directory. To start Star Office
you just need to run ~/Office50/bin/soffice

Check out "rsync". Does exactly what you want, including encryption and
compresion over the network.

There is also "lfu" which is a local tree copy with a lot of flexibility

this is the README in /opt/wabi/unsupported:

This directory contains unsupported files relating to Wabi:

solarwav.so: Partial implementation of Linux sound driver interface for
Wabi. To use this driver, copy it into /opt/wabi/lib
(the same directory where timer.so is located) and restart
Wabi. You must have already configured your Linux machine
for sound support. This driver is sufficient to play most
.WAV files but does not work well yet with .AVI files.
It does not support sound recording. There are no plans
on providing complete sound support for Wabi for Linux
                at this time.

Subject: ?'s about mounting a hard drive
Date: Fri, 26 Mar 1999 17:58:41 GMT

Today's Questions are:

I have two hard drives in my machine. both are 6G. When I set up RH 5.2,
using Disk Driud, I specified that I wanted hdc1 (the second hd) as /backup.
At some point in this learning process (I'm being nice here) I edited my
/etc/fstab file to remove the mounting of hdc1. What I want to do is, at a
certain point in the week, schedule cron to mount hdc1, backup my important
files to this harddrive, and umount.

1.How can I be sure that the second hard drive REALLY is hdc1?

2.I have a /backup listed (in root) as a directory. Is this my hdc1? Even if
it's not mounted?

3.Since I am not automatically mounting the drive when I start up, what
command would I use to mount it? I have tried mount /dev/hdc1 /mnt/backup
and the hard drive makes it's noises, but how do i tell if I have actually
mounted it? Where will it show up?

Thanks in advance, and hope I'm not wearing out my welcome!

Howdy,
I set up my RedHat5.2 box as a pop3 server the other day. I simply
grabbed the latest version of Pine, coimpiled it from source,m grabbed
the ipop2d and ipop3d binaries, stuck them in /usr/sbin and then edited
/etc/inetd.conf so they would start up. Rather unorthodox but it's how
I got things working on Solaris 2.6.
My question is, it worked for a few days, and now when I use Netscape at
home to check my mail, I keep getting a Bad Password error, even though
I know it's correct, my Caps Lock is not on, etc. I'm suspecting shadow
passwords.
Anyone have any better suggestions for getting this running? Or ideas
on how to fix it? Please email me personally, as how I have so little
time to check this newsgroup.
Thanks.
