Since I've not exactly used cdrecord, does cdrecord just take an isofs
image and dump it to the CDR device? I've used dd in the past to dump it
to a device.

Since I'm here taking a stab, try this:
export bs=<whatever_block_size_and_further_options>
dd if=image bs=${bs} |
tee >(dd of=dev1 ${bs}) |
tee >(dd of=dev2 ${bs}) |
... |
dd of=devN ${bs}
Replace `dd' with cdrecord if it takes stdin and one can specify the
output device. the >() construct is a bash process substitution
mechanism, and you can just tee out the data into each respective device.
This is /all/ dependent on the I/O speed of your computer. I just don't
exactly know, sorry.

What happens if you just run more copies of cdrecord writing the same
image to different drives? You can do this from multiple xterm
windows, vt's, or if you don't mind the screen output being jumbled
by running each command line in the background with a '&' so you
can repeat it immediately. There may be some limit to the number
of drives you can deliver data to at writing speed, but otherwise
I don't see why the programs would affect each other. (I only have
one writer so I can try it myself).

Sorry if anyone read my previous post about this question.
I solved the problem after reading my own post. I realized it must
have something to do with my environment variables. Lo and behold
I had changed my TERM variable from "linux" to "vt100" so that I
could use PINE when telnetting to my ISP. (Otherwise it would give
me this annoying error "unknown terminal type".)
Thanks to anyone who read it or thought about the problem.

It seem pretty likely you have 'mc' aliased to 'mc -c'in the root
login. Try and 'alias' and see. If not it's simple to alias mc to mc -c
in individual user

Subject: command line ftp to download files plus sub directories?
Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 02:00:45 -0800
Hello:
Is there a ftp command to download multiple
files plus sub directories? As in fetch an entire
directory structure and it's contents.
"mget" only gets the top level files and complains
about sub directories. Example:
| -- file_a
|
| -- file_b
|
| -- dir_1
| |
| | -- file_c
| |
| | -- file_d
|
| -- dir_2
|
| -- file_e
|
| -- file_f
I can't get file c, d, e and f using "mget".
I can however "mget" file c, d, e and f only
if I make the sub directories ahead of time
on the receiving computer. This is not practical
with a long directory tree.
Thanks in advance.

I'm having a little trouble setting up my DSL in Linux. The ethernet card is
a 3com 3C905-TX, Linux picked up with no problem. I have a couple question
abut some configurations. I read the Net3 how to and just got totally
confused. I would appreciate any help. 1. The host name (my.isp.net) I
understand the last two, isp.net, however the first part is throwing me. Do I
have to register that with my ISP. For instance athena.isp.net. Do I just
choose a random name, similar to a name one chooses for Windows machines? 2.
I have my IP address, Gateway, Subnet, and DNS numbers, which were enough to
get my windows machine up and going. I'm assuming these are the same on
Linux, but what is interface IP? and what is the difference between the host
IP address and the interface ip address? And what is a Broadcast IP address,
I've never heard of that before, sorry I'm migrating from windows please
don't hold it against me =)
Again thanks in advance

I built my kernel for the 686. Works fine for both 2.0.35 and 2.2.1.
I haven't tried with other software. That's a lot to go building. I

Subject: Re: mounting a SCSI JAZ drive
Date: Fri, 05 Feb 1999 21:26:24 -0700
ezjab,
Jaz drives come from the factory set up in "read-only" mode (which makes
no sense). You need software to make it able to write. This software
(from Iomega) is available for Mac and PC only. They don't support there
hardware for unix machines. Boneheads!
Anyway... Lucky for us, someone has written a program to save the day.
Bob Willmot has written jaztool, which allows you to control the
read/write mode of the drive with a simple command.
This program is available from
ftp://grashof.engr.colostate.edu/pub
as a tar-gzipped distribution.
Compile it on your machine and change the mode of the jaz drive.
Then insert a jaz disk.
I think you are okay at this point if you want the disk msdos formatted?
I didn't try. I wanted ext2! So I
repartitioned it and used mke2fs..... Here's how.
fdisk /dev/sd*
Where * is the appropriate letter
While in fdisk, you will notice that you are partitioning the 4th
partition on the drive. I don't know why this is the case, but it doesn't
seem to matter. When I print the partition table, I get
Command (m for help): p
Disk /dev/sdb: 64 heads, 32 sectors, 1021 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb4 * 1 1021 1045488 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
Then use mke2fs to make an ext2 filesystem (format) the jaz disk
Then you can mount the drive as normal
cd /
mkdir jaz
mount /dev/sd*4 jaz
You may want to add a line to your /etc/fstab file. My entry was
/dev/sdb4 /jaz ext2 defaults 0
0
Good luck.

Guys;
I've seen gains even on my laptop with 24 meg of ram. This is really
excellent. My question is has anyone successfully targeted something
other than i386? In other words has anyone attempted to compile for i586
or 686. I could imagine great performance increases by do that. Its
like my old laptop has been reborn.
EGCS can do i486 the question is how much of an additional benefit would one
get by going to the pentium compiler? Beyond the kernel which library
should be optimized next? My goal is to make my laptop with its 133 Mhz
processor perfrom like my desk top unit. Thats a stretch considering the
Desktop runs at 333mhz but it is hampered by NT.

Linux Device Drivers by Alessandro Rubini. And to save you the trouble,
the full source for his examples are at
ftp://ftp.ora.com/pub/examples/linux/drivers mentioned on page 11 of the
book (I didn't think this was mentioned in the most visible place). A
lot of the examples really don't make sense without the full source.
Also look at Documentation/kernel-docs.txt in the source of 2.2.1.

This was a very common problem when people were using those libc versions
and netscape.
There were hundreds of web-pages that told a user how to get specific versions
of libc to fix a malloc bug and how to set their LD_LIBRARY_PATH to that
directory while running netscape to avoid the mem leak.
Search the web with "Linux" "Netscape" "<netscape version number>"
and "malloc". Try:
http://www.enmu.edu/~moorej/cis/java/Howto-2.html
It isn't directly related to your problem, but has a link to the malloc lib,
and instructions
on how to set your LD_LIB stuff.

Here's a quickie. When I dial into my ISP using RedHat 5.2 and the
control-panel to activate my connection, the response I get back from
their USR chassis interrupts the chat login script that comes with the
official RH 5.2 setup. Is there any way to suppress the message coming
back from the modems at the ISP?
Thanks.

It's not got a thing to do with whether I liked it. Mostly agreed with
it, in fact.
It's wasted bandwidth on the 'Net to quote it like that. Not to mention
that I've had to download the whole thing again just to read that you
liked it. Seriously, I'm not trying to be a butt, I'm trying to turn
you on to a little Usenet etiquette.

"I don't suppose there is anything wrong with that, aside from the fact
that it would be horrible." Nope, nothing funny about that phrase...
;-)
For the record:
I *do* laugh at the truth often. Keeps me from crying.
I don't *think* I'm naive, but then, naive people rarely think that they
are...
No, I don't think MS has invested all that money with no thoughts of
getting it back.
Sheesh.
