Hi all,
I have a pb with a panasonic CD-R. When I enter this command :
cdrecord dev=6,0 -inq, I get this result :
Cdrecord release 1.8a19 Copyright (C) 1995-1998 Jrg Schilling
scsidev: '6,0'
scsibus: 0 target: 6 lun: 0
Device type : Removable unsupported
Version : 2
Response Format: 2
Capabilities : SYNC LINKED
Vendor_info : 'MATSHITA'
Identifikation : 'CD-R CW-7502 '
Revision : '4.16'
Device seems to be: unknown.
It seems this is a pb of my scsi adapter (AHA 2920). Could someone
confirm me this or tell me how to solve this pb ?
Thanks in advance

Should be simple. Look on Sunsite, er, Metalab for the various
'cramdisk' kits. I keep a floppy around with a kernel that supports
3c509 and NE2000 nics, a serial port and includes Lynx and Minicom.
Great when you're stuck using someone's broken computer and just want a
proper terminal program. (And, yes, Hyperterm sucks.)
The cramdisk package has all the information you need to make your own
cramdisk, including choosing what files to put on it.

Hmmm. I think the point is being somewhat missed here.
Seems to me that the benchmark testers haven't told us what the test
consists of. ie. The software in question, thye hardware it is to run on
and any special settings applied to either hardware or software.
Software
includes operating system here. If we knew everything about the test
they could run NT on whiz bang hardware with whiz bang tweaks agains
apache on a 286 with 1 meg of ram and a 10 meg H/D and we could STILL
make valid comparisons. By revealing NOTHING of teh platform specs or
anything else apart from the results the publishers have rendered what
may well have been a usefull comparison totally meaningless.

Chances are you're missing an important file, or it may have the wrong
filename (note that case *IS* important to Linux). For more

Hmm. Given that you can program emacs, and so by extension gnus, I suppose
if you wanted it to act like vi you could make it so. On the other hand,
if you really like vi that much, you probably wouldn't want to mess with
emacs to begin with.

A common misconception. Actually, emacs is a lisp development system
disguised as an editor.

Sorry. Gnus is an emacs extension, written in emacs lisp. AFAIK, it only
runs inside [X]emacs.

If you've got an existing image file, yes. X-CD-Roast, however, doesn't
support CREATING such an image file, AFAIK. In theory, you can do this
with the mkhybrid utility, but I've never gotten it to work. (The

I'd expect him to use the index. Funny you mention this example,

details on how to turn on and tune the television. Note that this is

Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 10:39:41 +0100
Hi
Here's my problem:
computer with one 2.6GB hard drive. Linux RH 5.2.
After several attempts trying to fix the ATI card problem to work with
XWindow, I gave up - but only for now (I wanted to get much more
information to try it again). For the moment, just using Windows 98
-which, by the way, was already installed on that machine
The problem is that I wanted (for the moment) to uninstall Linux and
recover that partition it was on.
I did fdisk/mbr in order to recover the original partition table. No
message error.
When using once again fdisk (DOS/Windows one) to see what partitions
there where and their size - surprise: The system didn't recongnize any
other partition (although it reported the correct size of the drive)
and, worst than that, didn't let me erase the extende DOS partition.
Please, anyone can tell me what to do?
ALL sugestions are obviously welcome
Thanks JPC

We are are currently trying out the Elsa Quickstep 1000Pro PCI (bought from
Simply). This even comes with (a dusty) Linux driver
(which we didn't use) on the install cdrom (as well as DOS, Win9.x, WinNT
and OS/2 drivers). It is penguin approved (if you believe the Elsa web
site).
The advantage of the PCI card is that you don't have to mess with IRQ's or
ISA PnP. So far I managed to get a 64Kbit
connection to our dialup server via X.75 protocol (using modem emulation ,
standard PPP and the /dev/ttyI0 device). i.e you
just pretend it is an ordinary modem and use the device /dev/ttyI0. You
need to compile the kernel for isdn and Elsa support
and compile and install the isdn4linux stuff . For modem emulation you have
to add an exta &E123456 to the modem initialisation
eg
ATZ&E123457
The 1234567 is supposed to be you own (ISDN) telephone number but t is not
important.
see:
ftp.franken.de/pub/isdn4linux/
and
man ttyI
after installing isdn4linux.
I am having more difficulty using SyncPPP to my regular ISP. This may be
because regional calls from the ISDN line have been
disabled (our admin claims they aren't ).
I wouldn't go so far as to recommend this card just yet, but it looks
promising.

2 solutions:
1) Back up everything on the windows partition, and delete and recreate it
with fdisk, then restore the backed-up files, or
2) Use a programme like Partition Magic which can non-destructively resize
partitions.
Even if you use Partition Magic you should still back up, in case something
goes wrong --
