I signed-up for o8i NT and Linux version at technet website. They have
sent me o8i for NT and told that I will receive 8i for Linux by Mid
June. Earlier I also received Dev6 beta on such an offer.
I think bringing out new database releases too fast is now becoming a
bottle neck for their performance.

I just recently installed RedHat 6.0 and when I log in as a regular user
and attemp to use my floppy drive with the floppy icon on the desktop, I
get an error message stating that only root can mount the floppy.
How do I get around this problem as I do not wish to log on a root all
the time just to use my floppy drive. This never happened to me when I
was using RedHat 5.2.

Just wanted to add that three button logitech mice seem to be the
mouse for Linux. Buy one, then during setup choose ps2 and no
3-button emulation with the ps2/serial mouseman when using on a ps2
port. Works great if you got $35.

Unfortunately, the *battle* over gun control is, in and of itself, yet
another such conflict.
There might be an extent to which it begins a "first step" towards ending
violence; unfortunately the disagreement and (occasionally) downright
rebellion that it elicits in some represents a "step" in the other
direction.

but when browsing with netscape i get the error: tcp error, no route to

when i do ls -d XXdomainXX, i says: a critical error ha occured while
connecting. Ping works ok, but a lot of latency.
Then when i examing /var/log/messages, i see that modprobe misses "module

I did a standard install, so what am i doing wrong?

a) you should not telnet in as root, unless you have your own poopy

b) get yourself ssh (or some would suggest kerberos....) and then you

Some people - myself, for instance have well-developed habits that work
well without anything beyond a window manager; I keep meaning to look at
Gnome, but probably won't until some time after fvwm2 supports it
properly.
Some people have machines too old and slow to run Gnome effectively.
Some people aren't worried about the possibility of every commercial Linux
developer having to give Troll Tech money, and run KDE. I think they are
misguided, but I can't stop them...

Search for nasm (nasm.tar.gz, nasm.rpm, nasm.deb)
Current version is 0.97, though it might already be 0.98 (is going to be

The as command is ugly unix-styled assembly syntaxis, while nasm uses the

The way to use it is:

It will return as the IP address !!
So MYENVIP=`ifconfig ppp0 | getip /dev/stdin` does the work for you !!

I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 5.2 to my PC - being the first time
I ever installed it I chose the workstation open and let it do it all
automatically. Suprisingly it was remarkably effective :) and just about
everything appears to be working wonderfully.
The one problem I have experienced and would appreciate some help with is as
follows:
I have copied some C programs from another red Hat 5.2 system onto my
machine. When I attempt to compile the program (which compiles with no
errors on the other system) the stupid thing crashes dreadfully with
hundreds of errors. All I can presume is that the installation did not some
kind of necessary library or something.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you require more info just
let me know.

I've noticed the same behavior and as you suggest, suspected a DNS issue...I

occurred when I pointed the startup
page to a server on a local network which is the default search entry in

Consult the Assembly-HOWTO, which is probably on your very own
system as we speak. Hurry 'locate Assembly' before it runs away!
Lacking that, use your favorite web search engine to locate
the Linux Documentation Project; then go to the section HOWTOs,
in particular....you guessed it, the Assembly-HOWTO. After that,
peruse the LDP site, noting some of your favorite topics for
