The MySQL server is on my Linux box which is on my LAN. I am in Windows NT

it says my IP isn't allowed. How do I add allowed host masks or IP numbers
to MySQL? I didn't see any option to do it in mysqladmin...

Hi there, I am sorry I don't think I am repeating this because this
message isn't shown in my news server:

In many cases of making (compiling and linking) KDE applications,
I get the following lines when doing make all:

/usr/local/kde/lib/libkdeui.so: undefined reference to
`QMultiLineEdit::resizeEv

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I am using KDE 1.1.1, Linux Slackware 3.6, and XFree86

Can anyone who understands deeply development (or anyone else that
thinks thatcan help with that problem) help me?

  Any help really appreciated,

I've got an external us robotics modem, 56K, model 5686. I want to

what's the initial string for this model of modem?

Partition Magic, or its ilk. Another trick is to move large directories
from one partition to an emptier one. Find the big ones with something
like:

du -x / | sort -n | tail -24

Use cp -a (which some people don't like) or tar/cpio to move the files
over.

This isn't often done even in protected mode operating systems. The
main program in this case is almost a kernel, would it not? (Return to
the main routine would be by what mechanism?)

If the user simply wanted a flat address space, the Intel processor
offers a mode whereby all RAM is available as a contiguous segment
in real mode. It goes by many names, since Intel never mentioned it
outright: flat real mode, unreal mode, big real mode, etc. etc.

It depends on what the original author wanted.

basically, you need to add the NT ip into the user table at the database

Hi,
I have upgraded from redhat 5.2 to 6.0, and I have a problem with my
networking setup. For example:

stefano: stefano> ping localhost
PING localhost (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes

--- localhost ping statistics ---
7 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

and:

stefano: stefano> ping 130.237.191.6
PING 130.237.191.6 (130.237.191.6): 56 data bytes

on the other hand, I can telnet to and from other machines, and also reach
web sites. But connecting to my own httpd doesn't work. If I telnet from
and to my own machine I get similar things as from ping:

stefano: stefano> telnet localhost

stefano: stefano> telnet 130.237.191.6

I have never seen these problems before... can anyone help me?

This will run on the first minute of every hour. To run a script every
minute, it's probably better to write the script as a loop with "sleep 60"
and perhaps a crontab every hour or so to test whether your script is
still running.

Okay, I need reasons to convince the other sysadmins to use Mandrake 6.0
over RH for our servers, 1st and desktops, 2nd.

I know that Mandrake is faster since it is completely compiled for the
Pentium versus RH's kernel only (IMHO, this should be enough). I also
know that Mandrake has newer rpm's for gnome, kde, and the kernel.

My question is what other reasons can I give (or am I missing)?

Thanks.

No need. Once you have a login to group 0, it's trivial to create a
script called "su", place it in the PATH of that user [possibly
modifying the PATH to make sure it is executed first], and spoof the
behavior of 'su' to grab the password. The script would obviously need
to fake an incorrect 'su' attempt [which most users won't think twice
about... we all mistype passwords frequently enough] and then delete
itself, after logging the password to a secret location.

In any event, most people I know 'su' almost immediately upon login,
which means very little overhead is needed for a straightforward
sniffer.

"More steps involved in hack" does not necessarily equal "More secure".
Most of these things are automated anyway, so there is little difference
to the hacker.

I would have to agree with this since I'm not familiar with System
Commander. Also use cfdisk to make your partitions. This is executed as
part of the debian install. LILO will make it much easier to manage your
boot partitions unless you're running NT... then you're kinda forced to use
NT's boot loader... however, at one time, I had NT's boot loader working
with LILO. NT's boot loader will appear first. If I select Win98 it'd go
through LILO first. If I select NT it'd boot directly to NT without LILO
appearing. That was kinda nifty.

Subject: Compiling new kernel (2.2-15)
Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 10:36:49 -0400

I'm trying to compile a new kernel and cannot seem to get it working. I'm
using Kernel 2.2.5-15 with SMP support - I can compile a new kernel just
fine but when it's loading and gets to Checking Module Dependencies - It
freezes. A check of 'depmod -a 2.2.5-15smp-new' reveals: "unresolved
symbols" for hundreds of modules (i.e: unresolved symbol for vfat.o, even if
vfat.o exists in the /lib/modules/2.2.5-15smp-new directory.

I have read all the FAQs and man pages and I can't seem to get it working.
The only issue is that I had to use make bzImage (because my kernel was
>600K) - I've done the make modules and make modules_install and everthing
else mentioned in the Kernel-HOW TO and Red Hat docs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Al Nios

I didn't know anybody even tried to bother anymore with anything less
than UW ot U2W drives. Since Seagate Cheetahs can sustain something like
20Mbits/sec, it would take only two of them at peak volume to saturate a
UW bus, and four to saturate a U2W bus.

When you're looking at things like building a dual P3@450Mhz server
with 1GB RAM and something in the range of 400GB raw disk space, there's
no sense in thinking small (or slow).

No, I'm not (yet ;-) looking to knock wcarchive off the top of the
hill, I just want a decent enough anonymous ftp server or Usenet news
server....

Oh. Then iozone would almost certainly be even worse than bonnie. At
least with rawio, I can throw 256 processes (or more) at the disk
subsystem, with dozens of GB (or more) to carve up amongst them in their
parallel multi-threaded random and sequential reads and writes, to ensure
that even with 1GB of RAM, buffer cache effects should be minimized (that
is, if you can't avoid buffer cache, as is the case with Linux).

As a disk benchmarking tool, well, it makes a find parameter setting
tool. ;-)

I like KDE especially under SuSE Linux-6.1. It's clean and business
oriented (no animated monkeys or flaming dildos). I can have Netscape
open to local server on screen-1 and 7 diffreent perl script open
on the other 7 screens. Make one change in any one them and I get
an instant live test (the only way with perl).

Gnome is something to keep an eye on too.

BTW the SuSE setup will manage any number of window managers
very nicely (and quickly).

I'll be trying RH and Slacker again after some absence!

cheers.

Did you make modules and then make install_modules. And then
/sbin/lilo.
