Okay, first, don't panic.. well, okay, panic a little, but not
too much.. Afterall, you have *DUPLICATE* blocks. What's it
gonna hurt to have a spare, eh? :)
Second, a caveat/disclaimer: it's your computer. You do
what you want. I ain't responsible. I'll just explain how I
personally did it; maybe it's not the best way. You might lose
some files. Probably your system isn't totally hosed, but if you
have some precious files, you might want to save those to floppy.
After I explain how to do that, I'll explain how to fsck things up.
-=-=- saving to floppy in fsck'ed mode -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
First, for reference, 'man mount'. (That is, after you're
done, since 'man' probably isn't available, or something. See
LDP homepage for man pages.)
It can be a bit complicated when you're in fsck'ed mode, so
I'll explain how to save to floppy. The problem is it's a read-only
filesystem. You try to edit something, only to get yelled at about
trying to edit something. Also, some of your favorite directories
might not be mounted, so some of your favorite applications might
not be available. Also, when I did this, suddenly I no longer
had a /mnt/floppy directory. So, to mount the floppy, you have to
have a little faith; you have to mount the floppy over an already
existing directory.. Yikes! So pick a directory you don't mind
being deleted, just for your peace of mind, but it will come back
after you umount the directory. I promise, really. (mwuhahaha..)
Remember that mounting a filesystem is just an illusion; the kernel
fools you into thinking you're looking at some ordered filesystem
at some certain place, but it's tricking you.
Anyway, to mount your floppy, say for concreteness you picked
the /tmp directory (if it's available), then from the fsck'ed shell,
after you inserted the floppy disk,
(mount floppy to /tmp directory)
bash$ mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /tmp
(Hopefully no errors, so type)
bash$ mount
(and it will tell what is mounted. Hopefully something like
"/dev/fd0 on /tmp type msdos (rw)". Now copy whatever files
you want to into the /tmp directory.)
bash$ cp /path/to/precious/files /tmp
(when you're done, unmount the floppy filesystem)
bash$ umount /tmp
Now, everything precious is saved. You might want to check
your floppy just to be safe.
-=-=-=- fsck'ing your filesystem -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Once you've backed up your precious files, you can hose....erm,
I mean, repair your filesystems. For reference, 'man fsck' (but
'man' probably isn't available right now. See LDP webpages for
manpages.)
bash$ fsck -A -V; echo == $? ==
This says (-A) check (fsck means "filesystem check") ALL of
the filesystems, (-V) and be VERBOSE about it (that is, provide
every bit of information possible). Normally your kernel boots
up with the -a option, and that means non-interactive, so you
don't have any say in what fsck is doing. That makes booting
easier, I guess. But now you want full command...kinda...well,
maybe you'd rather not have any command, but too bad, you've
got it... There, I said it. The 'echo' part, will just tell
whether you're screwed or not; if you see a number less than
4 between the equals signs, you're okay and can just reboot.
Otherwise....well, let's hope for the best, m'kay?
Now, you will be subjected to a barrage of questions which
you have no idea how to answer. I don't have experience with
duplicated blocks, so keep that in mind. Probably you just
want to answer humbly "yes, master" to each question fsck poses.
Have some faith here. Probably it will back up the files it
unlinks in the "/lost+found" directory anyway, though they'll be
named weird things like #36041, or something. You could even
try 'less #36041' and maybe be pleasantly surprised. When it's
done fsck'ing (probably it'll spew numbers at you; don't be
offended--it's a gesture of friendliness), do what it says,
which may be to reboot.
That's the gist of it. Now you know what sysadmin people
mean when they say "What the fsck?!?!?".
Happy hosing. :)

Well, one thing that needs to be changed is
$RVPLAYER_LOCATION:rvplayer to $RVPLAYER_LOCATION/rvplayer
That works and gets rid of the "error 38" at CNN -- but now I get
"error 1" as the player starts loading. I didn't bother checking to
see what caused that.
As far as "bad substitution" goes, what version of bash do you have
installed? You may need to upgrade.

I've got the same problem. Plus NONE of the Designer programs from at
least 3.1 on up will run under WABI or WINE, forcing a reboot to even
export anything. By the way, the best mode of export I've found so far
to get stuff into Star Office in an editable manner is WMF (windows
metafile), but even that requires rediculous amounts of hand fixing.
If you or anyone else come up with a solution, please post it!

Does anyone out there know how to do it? I want to put my parallel Zip
drive to good use rather than putting it in the attic to collect dust,
and build a small Ethernet network at home. I got a DaynaPort ISA
Ethernet adapter that comes with 2 cables RJ-45 10Base-T and BNC 10Base
2, T-Connector, install guide and software for Windows. Now running
Redhat 5.2. iMac has a ready-to-use 10/100Base-T plug, and suggests an
Ethernet hub. What brand and model should I use in my case? Or what
kind? Too many out there. Confusing. Do I really need a hub when I just
want to hook up 2 computers?
TIA.

On the first place, you dunnot need sendmail if you've your mailbox somewhere

Hi
I installed the Mandrake 6.0 Linux distribution based on the Red-Hat
6.0.
I automaticaly installes the postgresql program. I want to try out
this
database but I can't connect to it as explained in the doc file, I get
a
message "Missing or mis-configured pg_hba.conf file", this file
doesn't exist
on my computer.
In the doc file there is always made mention of a /usr/local/pgsql
directory,
this directory is not on my computer.
The rest seems fine, the postmaster process is runing and I use the
postgres
account that was automaticaly create to loggon.
So if someone knows what to do I would be very happy.
Thank-you:

"initdb does not know where to find the files that make up Postgres

What file would I put these in? I think the main problem is that RH won't
