Sounds like /usr/src/linux/include/asm doesn't exist, or the errno.h in
that directory does not exist.

That's down-right odd. I think I'd start fresh from /usr/src and create
a fresh source directory under it called linux-2.2.14 and go from there.

Can anybody give me a hand about C library? I have some questions about
C library.

1. What's difference between libc5 and glibc?

2. Where can I get the source code for libc5?

3. I want to record all C library calls of a program. Currently I have
too different ways to do this. The first one is to modify the source
code of a program. For example, replace printf(..) with my_printf(...)
which records the C library calls. The second one is to modify the
source code of C library, and then rebuild the C library. Now, I wonder
whether there is a common entry to all C library calls so that I can
record all calls after I modify this common entry.

4. Where is the source code for some small applications and commands,
such ps and ls, under Linux/FreeBSD?

5. Please give me some useful links about C library implementation?

Thank you very much,

Subject: Q: setting up modem and soundcard
Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 01:20:26 GMT

Hi, all:

I have installed Linux-Mandrake6.1 from CD, but I can't make my modem
work, don't have a clue, and none is told by the user guide on how to
set modems and dial-up ISP.

Another Q: I tried to set my sound card by /usr/sbin/sndconfig, but the
system always tells me that I have something wrong. I know PNP may not
be good for Linux, but for now I have to rely on my Win95 to connect
with the Internet, so I have to rely on my Win95 PNP settings and won't
change them.

Can someone share his/her expertise with me?

Note: I have an ESS1868 sound card, an Apon 56k PCI modem, and a
3Com509 nic, I don't use the nic currently, but won't want to remove it
from my box.

Thanks.

It's remarkably slow, has the bugs Rod described in his message, and
is nearly unusable in my opinion -- certainly far worse than
WordPerfect 8 for Linux (which was written by SDCorp specifically for

Your modem is most likely a win modem, and thus all I can recomend is to
take it out and throw it as far as you can. The buy a nice modem with
jumpers that you can actually configure.
See the modem HOWTO http://www.linux.org/help/ldp/howto/Modem-HOWTO.html

Once you've got a nice modem and it's configured check out the ISP HOWTO

Subject: Using RedHat Kickstart with Large Second Ide Drive
Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 02:26:35 GMT

Hi,
I'm attempting to install RedHat 6.2 on a second IDE Drive .
I'm totally blind, and I want to use the Kickstart method if possible so I
won't have to negotiate the prompts.
If this works, it'll benefit not only myself, but
many other blind Linux users who have been trying to figure
out a way to get Redhat installed for some time.
My problem is getting Linux to recognize the second drive.
I've tried removing all partitions from the drive,
creating two partitions one type swap
and the other type native Linux and
using the onpart options in the Kickstart file, but I still
get a message indicating there is no space to create the partitions I've
specified.
My disk is a Maxtor 25.2 gig drive, and I know that in the past
there have been issues when the drives are larger than 8 gigs.
I'm using the aefdisk program to create the Linux partitions under Windows
9x,
but I haven't been successful getting Linux to see the drive or the
partitions.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Brad Trainham

Point taken, although if the user tries to keep customizations, /home,
etc., then I would call it an awkward form of upgrading.

Yeah, but since that's the goal, the problems are _bugs_ to be reported
(and repaired?).

Not true.

Read the man page for bash, under the section titled
"INVOCATION". (With the latest bash version that is right at
the beginning, but not with older version. Use '/' to search
forward.) The .bashrc file will not be read by a login shell
unless instructions to do so are added to the ~/.bash_profile
file (or ~/.bash_login or ~/.profile if one of those is used).

DrMath 3 For Java
runs in any computer that supports Java. If you seen it
online, it can run offline in your computer.

It is an online symbolic math and computer algebra system.
It can perform exact, numeric, symbolic and graphic computation,
e.g. arbitrary-precision calculation, solve equation, plot data and
user-defined functions, linear regression, symbolic differentation
and integration, pattern-match. It is a programming language, in
which you can define conditional, case, piecewise, recursive,
multi-value functions and procedures, derivatives, integrals and rules.

Hello to all:

At work I have been asked to capture syslog messages being run by a non

as user jdoe to permit it to run as jdoe. Now, I need to update

What updates do I need to make to /etc/syslog.conf to permit this
logging?

Thanks.

I believe the man page says that in a log-in shell, .bash_profile is
read, not .bashrc (unless sourced in .bash_profile); .bashrc is read for
"non-login-shells"

That's pretty disappointing, then. I've been quite satisfied with WP7
and WP8 for Linux (although I found then not real successful at importing
Word docs; even found that the Win95 version of WP7 better at importing
Word6 docs).

But I got the impression that maybe this "port" of Corel Office was
heavily dependent on WINE work. And since I'd never had any luck getting
WINE to run anything that I wanted to run, I guess my hopes were not high.

But, I'm still reserving judgement until I get to see something "in the
flesh".

If I remember the analogy correctly, it's free as in "free beer," but
not free as in "free speech." Qt is the bottleneck, I believe.
