I've just tried it again, and you can download it from the link I
posted. Maybe you're trying the .rpm? I wouldn't know about that one,
but the "G2 player for Linux 2.0/2.2" link is OK.

Try looking at "create mask" in the smb.conf file (assuming you're using
samba...)

I have upgraded to 4.51 as I have found older versions to be not so good

Are you talking about:
a) A visual programming language?
or
b) A language where marketers put the word "visual" on the front so
as to try to convince people that somehow the tool is K001er than the
other tools that don't have the word "visual" on the front?
If you're looking for the former, then I suggest looking at:
<http://www.cs.orst.edu/~burnett/vpl.html>
If the latter, I think that someone has created a version of Tcl that
they have deigned to name "Visual TCL." You might look for that.

After 30 hours, I can get through the login and password from minicom then
it gives me a line of garbage and doesnt do anything else. After this the
modem gets locked up and i can't try to use it again. I've tried pppscript,
linuxconf, netcfg, Kppp, minicom nothing seems to get me in. I do know my
isp uses Debian but don't really have any answers for me on that end.
Minicom runs real slow also if this helps things? but does dial out.
linuxconf and netcfg dials out and talks with my isps modem. Kppp won't do
anything cept tell me the modem is busy or other nonsence. Is setting up my
printer, zip drive going to be this hard as well???

If you say 'have you setup your DNS correctly' to the average

Easy, you disassemble the binary format, write down all the 650 megs

I had the same problem. Try installing the original bootsektor
using the msdos fdisk /mbr then boot your linux and install
lilo in hda5 (your linux partition) not hda (masterboot record).
This worked for me. Backup your data first, if anything goes

I have 4.6, and it doesn't work with Java either. it sounds like not everyone has
this problem so maybe its an installation specific issue? I tried the red hat RPM
and the tarball off the netscape web site, they both had the same problem. It
could be that I have kaffe, as well as jdk 1.7 and 1.2 from blackdown installed,
and its getting all screwed up by mixing and matching runtimes with classes. I'll
have to check into that. For now I just disabled Java, and there is an option in
the preferences menu for it. It's under the advanced options.

Subject: Printing (apsfilter?) problems with SuSE 6.1
Date: Fri, 2 Jul 1999 17:00:37 +0100
I'm still a relative novice with Linux.
I've recently installed SuSE 6.1 / kernel 2.2.7 (I previously ran Suse
5.2 for about 6 months - printer worked OK there - kernel 2.0.33) but I
can't get my HP Lasejet 4L to print correctly with my new setup. I have
read as many man pages, HOWTO and documentation files as I can find on
this and related subjects (don't claim to have understood everything)
I believe that I have solved initial problems connected with configuring
the parallel port (parport/paride : I have Syquest EZ135 and HPLJ4
chained on parallel port at 0x378 using IRQ 5. I have followed setup
instructions, modified /etc/printcap... and the EZ135 works OK) - I
recompiled the kernel to include all necessary modules. My problem SEEMS
to be connected with the printer filtering.
While logged in as root:-
If I enter
cat /var/log/boot.msg > /dev/lp0
text is output to my printer, with successive lines heavily indented
(although no page-throw is appended - I have to initiate printing by
manually forcing the page-throw). This output looks like classic
unfiltered format, of the kind I have seen in documentation about
Ghostscript, apsfilter ,etc)
If I execute lpr against the same file, then
a) a queued job appears normally, via lpq
b) output to the printer is in landscape mode, but only prints a fraction
of a vertical column of the text, in varying positions across the page,
with occasional garbage added. Again, no page-throw is appended, so
printing does not start automatically.
c) In /var/spool/lpd/ljet4l-a4-auto-mono-300 there are what seem to
be valid CF... and DF... files, and the Lock file contains a Lock number
and the name of the CF file. There is also an error file errsxxxxa00<lock
no> file which contains 2 lines:-
tail: /var/spool/lpd/ljet4l-a4-auto-mono-300/lock: Permission denied
/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/ljet4l-a4-auto-mono-300 : ${CF} :Ambiguous
redirect
I have repeated this process several time - same result very time.
>From here I lack the basic Linux / Unix knowledge to know how best to
investigate further. I am looking at the apsfilter shell scripts and
learning about shell scripting, and looking up manual pages as I go.
What I really want is to learn how to track this (and future) problem(s)
down (rather than be handed a solution on a plate, although that would be
quite acceptable in this case ) - how can get I get further diagnostics?
(I haven't seen anything helpful in /var/log/messages, or with dmesg. I
don't know here else to look).
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,
Tim Sanders

have you checked that the file exists? you could simply use ps aux to
determine the PID of httpd. Also killall -HUP httpd should restart it

08:22 is /dev/sdc2
The kernel is complaining because it has no idea how to deal with that
device (did you built it as a module? don't do that with your root: it
can't load modules to deal with the device until it knows how to deal
with the device... catch-22)

Anyone forced to do anything will say bad things. Who likes to be
forced?
As for being forced, I've used a Kayak XA for almost 2 years and the
only problems I've ever had were user error or fixed by updating a
driver. It's running NT and the usual office apps, terminal emulation,
etc.
I get to compare it to an old VLB based system, built out of parts,
another commercial system (which is much less stable under 98), and
another HP system, a creaky old Vectra XA P166, which is stable, but a
bit slow nowadays.

You can find good things said about them and bad things said about them,
the same as any other PC. Just like you can say "there are good drivers
and bad drivers" or "Good cars and bad cars."
When I check, many of the real problems listed are of the "Anyone know
where I can get Linux drivers for the array controller card in my Kayak"
or "I can't get BSD to install." Then there are a bunch of "I hate Ford,
I like Chevy" messages. Very few HW issues.
When you said "everything was soldered on the motherboard" since that's
been an industry trend for some time, I wasn't surprised.
When you said "non-compatible with anything ISA sound card" I was
surprised since most of the Kayak's come with an onboard soundchip and
as far as I know the only one to use an ISA soundcard was one of the
XA's. It's not a "wow gee-whiz" card, but it's a standard card that
other vendors use. It's the same card that was used in the Vectra's.
