Hi,
To create the link, type the following command :
ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_xxxx /var/X11R6/bin/X
To re-install the X-server run xf86config and answer the questions.
Near the end of the configuration, it will ask you if you want it to fix the
link. Say yes.
Hope this helps. Charly.

I got a problem for the gnome under redhat6.0. After the
installation finished, all the nice background
images disappeared under the gnome configuration program(e-conf). Is
there anyone know which
particular rpm package I should install in order to get back those nice
background images??? Thanks a lot,

ln /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_xxxx /var/X11R6/bin/X

I'm hard pressed to see what your point is. A list of 20
providers using CHAP hardly means that it is universal. It
happens that I log into an ISP now and then which uses PAP
(actually, I log into two different ones that use PAP).
However, so what if even a _vast_ majority were using CHAP??
Linux can use CHAP just fine. In fact at the very top of your
list is AT&T Worldnet, which uses CHAP and which was the second
service where I personally ever used CHAP. (The first one was
on the internal AT&T network.)
Now, the fact is that Linux works very well with AT&T Worldnet.
So what's the point of that list and this discussion? Where is
this "Shortcomings of Linux?" in regard to CHAP on Worldnet?

While you are building the rootfs, be sure you have the dirs like
"/var", "/var/run", "/var/log".

I have generated kernel+file-system images of uClinux-coldfire
that are less than 512k and do contain TCP/IP. The real problem
at this size is that there is not much room to fit in many real
support applications. But it can be done.
If your platforms have a lot of RAM than you can look at keeping
a compressed image in the FLASH and expanding the kernal and
file-system into RAM for execution. This is what I do on the
Moreton Bay NETtel platform.
The gunzip loader is all of about 9k, and I run compressed
kernel+file-system images of about 500k. That uncompresses to a
total binary of about 1200k. That contains a fully decked out
kernel, with TCP/IP, IP firewalling, ethernet driver, PPP, SLIP,
RAM file system, etc. Quite an extensive application set in the
root file-system too. Includes things like a sh, init, pppd,
diald, ipfwadm, ifconfig, route, web server, telnet daemon, ping,
PoPToP VPN server, dhcpcd, and a bunch of other stuff...
Pretty easy to get NFS and SMB in there as well...

hi:
I used the httpd -l command to find out what modules is compiled in my
rh6 apache and it only has 2 (and .c files?) So I follow waht the
books says bye compiling apache with the line
AddMoudle modules/standard/mod_<something>.o
First strange thing I found is that there is no .o files in the apache
modules, there are all those modules the book descirbes (+ more) in
/usr/lib/apache/ but they are all in .so files. So I assume something
really not compatible is between the book and the rh6 version...
The book also talks about comiling Apache I need to enter ./Configure in
the src dir... I can't find any /apache/src dir anywhere.
Not just this.. but I think the whole apache in Linux is completely diff
from the book I got. Is there any doc that has more details on apache
+ linux? Or if someone can recommand a good book on it please?
Really appreciated for any help or hints I can get...

I installed StarOffice onto my Linux machine and I am thinking I may
have messed something up as well...I can't use Xwindows on my machine.
If I startx and don't use Xwindows, it will run forever. But if I use
xwindows it will halt my machine.
How do you rebuild libraries from a rescue floppy? I have the rescue
floppy but I can't find anything on rebuilding my libraries.

Wlanut Creek's official site is ftp.cdrom.com and you can
find latest Slackware at pub/linux/slackware
either point your browser at

That is called the click-click-click-and-you-are-done method.
If someone takes a little time (maybe a day) to get acqainted with Linux or
Unix one will feel tht it is very useful and it has the simplest and though
the most useful features.
I mean why to load the gigantic Excel for a simple sort stuff????
You could also use CorelDraw;)
(that's bigger and takes much more time to load)
While in case of the sort u can simple type a command and you get the
result much faster and in mymind easier..

Yes, that is the main concpt of the secrataries who do not want to think
just do the same old autoamtically learnt method which they usually do not
understand...

It certainly is not - the problem is YOURS, because you don't use the
well-known and often used linker option "-L /path-to-libs" (may be
specified multiple times). X-related libraries are of course in
/usr/X11R6/lib and not in /usr/lib. Look at Makefiles of any software
out there and learn from others.

Hi
I was just wondering if someone could confirm for me whether slackware
4.0 is a glibc2 or glibc1 based system? I've looked at the filelist and
it does come with glibc2 but I've compared the XSVGA server from the
slackware dist against the same XSVGA server from xfree86 and the server
from the slackware dist is glibc1 (ie libc5)
Since the dist comes with glibc2, albiet some of the s/w being glibc1
based, can I still make glibc2 my DEFAULT C library and have the rest of
the system run w/o any problems?
Any thoughts/comments would be well appreciated
