Subject: fetchmail dies when sender domain not resolved

Hi, all,

I am using fetchmail to receive email from my ISP using POP3. It works
fine, except when some jokers send me email using a fake domain name.
When fetchmail cannot resolve the sender domain name (e.g.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]) it just aborts and exits. Is there a switch or
something I can tell fetchmail to ignore such email and keep going?

Thanks very much.

O.K., I downloaded a new server via Win95 (is that a naughty word here)
onto a floppy. I got it onto the linux hard drive using tar. It didn't
create a new directory like some one said it should and the installation
instructions were incomplete. So, I'm downloading a different version and
redownloading the other version, hopefully they'll have instructions, but
in case they don't, could some one walk me through it, or am I going to
have to edit the XF86config file by hand? Thanks. Also, make menuconfig
(or make config) still won't work, saying there is no command. I was told
it should work once I install the new driver, but I can't do that quite
yet.

Make sure you are running the latest version on kppp. I had this problem

Sendmail 8.8 and above have spamblocks built into them by default. Th
easiest way to fix (IMHO) is to gdet the latest sendmail, and compile

What give the state the right to take money away from the rich to
give to the poor? It may be true that in some instances some people
have accumulated wealth in dishonest ways but there are a lot of
people who accumulated that wealth the right way, they earned it.
It is then normal that their offsprings would be the ones benifiting
from this wealth, no one else has a right to it.

For the record I am not born in a rich family. My father had 14
children and we were very very poor. I worked hard to pay for my
college and university education, I had no one to help me. I worked
on tobacco farms in the summer, worked night shift cleaning up floors
and doing other creasy jobs during the winter and still managed to get
good grades and am now a successfull electronic engineer.

So all that bullshit about the poors not being able to get out of
the shit I'm sure you know where I think you should stick up to.

Looks like a bug in the bios or a bad drive, not RedHat. I've used
RedHat on several PCs with never any problem. RedHat does have some
problems but not with the floppy.

I've had a similar problem (so it seemed) a few months ago on my
PC where I could read and write on my floppy drive under winblows
but not under OS/2. This was a 5.25 inches drive. I later found
out that the diskettes that I was writing under windows couldn't
be read at my office under winblows.

I used tar xzvf to untar the sources. And I did not have any kernel sources
in /usr/src/ b4. The 2.2.10 is the only one and is in usr/src/linux/. No
symlinks.

I tried make menuconfig but it said I lack sth like <curses.h>. Therefore I
resort to make config. It wasn't too bad anyway using the cmdline
interface. Now I just got stuck in the make dep. I tried make mrproper and
make config again but still to no avail. make dep just gave the same
errors.

BTW, I also get Fatal Error (11).Segmentation fault everytime I exits
emacs. Does that hurt?

Once you download the server try and read the documentation on how to install
it at your Linux Vendors site or at http://www.xfree86.org. don't try this
......
      You have to create couple of links in /usr/X11R6/bin directory. You
will find X and Xwrapper if you are using RH. Basically to use the new Server
you'll have to manipulate these links. You should read X Server HOWTOs fior
that http://metalab.unc.edu/mdw/LDP.

Hope this helps a little.

Since "Linux" was coined by combining UNIX and Linus, I would say just
pronounce it much like you pronounce "Linus" in your own language. ;-)

Redhat does a linux certification program, I've heard that it's quite good,
but I know for sure that it's long and OBSCENELY expensive. Maybe that's just
me and my broke ass though. If you're part of a big company that can pay it,
why not?

Haven't heard anything about linuxcare.

I have the exact same problem. It occurs when the sound module is
loaded.
The only thing that I could think of is that the volume on my speakers
is
too high. I have my computer sound running through a stereo in my room
and I keep the stereo volume loud ;) but keep the mixer volume
reasonable.
If anyone has a theory as to why this happens, or better yet a solution,
please share it.  Thanks.

Subject: ISP dial up with automatic Netscape start
Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 22:43:31 -0400

Someone posted a message, maybe a couple of weeks ago, anyway couldn't
find it anymore.

If I recall correctly the question was whether or not one could set up
the ISP dial up such that it would start the browser process, similar to
Windoze. Not that I am try to emulate the crap software from Redmond,
but yes there is a way. Here it is:

1.) Set up your pppd according to what ever works for you following the
HOWTo or any of the other documentation guiding you through this
process.

2.) Then add a unique identifier you can catch, with this I mean
something the script below can look for. In my case I have the following
at the end of my chatscript:

CONNECT ""
SAY "CONNECTED"

This prints 'CONNECTED' once the connection is established. Once
'CONNECTED' is returned the script below start the Netscape.

How to make it work:

1.) Put the following script in a file, the file name has no
significance.

#!/usr/bin/python
import os, sys

cmd = "/usr/sbin/pppd connect 'chat -v -f /etc/ppp/chatscript'\
      -detach"

f = os.popen(cmd)
if f.readline()[:9] == 'CONNECTED':
    os.system('netscape')
else:
    print 'Connection failed'
    sys.exit()

2.) Make sure you have Python installed and the interpreter is located
in /usr/bin, if not change the path accordingly.

3.) Make sure that the string assigned to cmd executes the pppd command
as you want it, with the appropriate options etc.

4.) Print a unique identifier after you know that the connection is
established, You may not need to print an identifier, depending on your
setup pppd may return something that you can check anyway. Then replace
the 'CONNECTED' string on the 'if' test with your identifier.
In the current state you must probe for something in the first line of
the return value from the pppd command. If you need to test for a
condition in line 3 for example insert a loop as follows:

for i in range(3):
    f.readline()
    if ....

5.)The 'f.readline()' reads a line from the file object created by the
'popen' instruction, [:9] slices the line, from the first character to
the ninth, i.e. the result of this is I have the following line:

"CONECTEDto the wonderful world of the information super highway"

is 'CONNECTED'.

6.) Put the file in a directory that's in you PATH and give it
executable permissions for the people you want to be able to use your
ISP account.

7.) Then simply execute the script. Once a connection was established
Netscape is started. This assumes that when you issue the command
"netscape" on your system Netscape is started, if this is not the case
just put the path to the Netscape executable as a string in the () of
the os.system command.

8.) A word to those not familiar with Python. The indentation of the
lines is important, so make sure you get it right. Also if you do not
slice from the beginning remeber tat Python indexing is 0 (zero) based.

Well, whoever posted the above mentioned question, I hope you still read
this newsgroup and get this message. To everyone else out there even if
you dislike Windoze and all it stands for, starting a browser
automatically after the ISp connection stands is not a bad idea.

My personal experience is this :

The main differences between RedHat 6.0 and Mandrake 6.0 are
that RedHat install correctly and Mandrake 6.0 crashes during install.

Mandrake is pentium compiled while RedHat 6.0 is compiled for
a 386 or 486.

I have a cyrix 686 230Mhz maybe it's the problem. But then Mandrake
5.3 install with no problem.

RedHat's control-panel print tool will set up the needed filters
for most printer including conversion to/from postscript and
delivery to remote lpd or windows-shared printers.

You're confused. When was the last time you bought a computer from a
major manufacturer? What "choices" of OS were you offered? That's
right, -- none. You bought with Windows or, literally, nothing. A
bare HD.

Now, you tell us -- how is it possible to "prefer" software by MS when
you're not offered anything else?
