The SVGA VM driver, intalled with VMware tools, works perfectly with any
resolution supported by your linux X. However, you must have X running
with at least the resolution you want to have in Windows, before you start
the virtual machine. For example, I run X at 1280 x 1024, and I run
windows with the same resolution or below (1024 X 768, etc).
I suggest you visit VMware newssite (news.vmware.com), where you will find
a lot of questions answered and where you can learn a lot about this VM
thing. I've been using it for three months and I love it.

I have a new RH6 linux box, and I need to create over 100 user accounts, and
give them all passwords. I have a script that uses adduser to create the
user accounts, but I cannot figure out how to create passwords. The passwd
command does not lend itself to scripted input. Any thoughts, pointers, help??
As a last resort I am considering a perl script that writes to the /etc/shadow
file, but I cannot figure out what encryption RH6 is using, it is not crypt.

What encryption method is used for encrypting passwords on RH6?.
It is not crypt, that is all I know for sure.

I have two systems, one RH5.2 and the other RH6.0.
On the 5.2 box POP3 started right out of the installation and I have
not fiddled anywhere to get it going.
On my 6.0 system however the POP3 server did not start, whereas the
SMTP service (sendmail) actually is running OK.
I have read here about uncommenting the proper lines in the inetd.conf
file and I have done so. But how do I start up the service after this?
I have to do it from a Telnet login so please give me the exact
command line syntax.

No problem. Dozens of Megs spare.

Nonsense. Some 30 Megs of my memory are never used (and of course,
neither is swap, but that is not important here). If I devote part of
the unused part of my memory to a RAMDISK then the efficiency of the OS
is clearly not impaired. Actually, it is drastically improved, since
normally the hard disk is accessed the first time a file is read, and
RAM is obviously faster than a HD.
Besides, the issue is not performance. I wouldn't mind even if I lost
some. I need a system that can run for a long time without HD access.

Why would someone want to do that? The durn Enlightenment panel is a
good part of the reason I STOPPED using Gnome/Enlightenment..
I still hate the desktop border switching in KDE (mouse winds up on
opposite side of the screen, or in the middle) but I've pretty much
gotten used to the other differences. Maybe KDE 2.0 will make the
desktop switching act like other WM's I've seen, such as Enlightenment
and AfterStep.

You may try creating a symlink from the older module it is looking for
to your current lib module.
I don't know how it will work loading a newer version, but its worth a
shot. Otherwise you may want to install the old module.

Yup. We are going to use a 3Com CS2600 server. We're having

Linux Applications Development from Addison Westley (sp) gives a pretty
good overview of the common tools used in Linux.
Beowulf clusters use the PVM library. I've found a few books online.

fsck runs when they're improperly shutdown or have problems.. before
you reboot or turn off issue a
shutdown -h now or halt to cleanly unmount and prepare your
filesystem for a clean boot.
"man shutdown" for more options.

when running configure, disable anything thats not on your system,

I downloaded the 70mb tar file available
at SUN's Web site, and installed SO -
i.e. It starts under Xwindows. However-
It seems to want web access to do anything, and HELP DOESNT WORK!
If SUN thinks that they add value to a product by removing Help from product
that is supposed to be delivered by download -
they are mistaken. Help is crucial to realizing the product's value. Or to
put it in marketing 101 terms - If the Help is inferior- I will not be a repeat
buyer.
If SO wants to compete with MS Office it seems they have to make a product that
is usable after the slick-looking setup program exits. A complex program such
as SO,without a decent help system ( and 5.0's is minimal) is nearly useless.
Gee... I was suprised when I clicked on help and got.. nothing?

Hi there. Just got a Sonorus STUDI/O and OSS driver for it, but there're
some weird problems:
- If clock rate is set to 44.1K by "ossmix fpga.clock 44.1K", "play"
reports "Warning: Playback using 41500 Hz (file 44100 Hz);
- If clock rate is set to 48K, the actual playback rate becomes 45200 Hz.
- If clock rate is set to PLL, and fpga.pll is PORTA which is connected to
an ADC running 44.1K internal clock, playback rate is also 41500 Hz.
This happens both in mode 1 and mode 3. We have to use 8-channel audio so
mode 0 is not a choice.
Anybody with any experience with this? Any suggestion/advice/help would be
highly appreciated!!!
Please reply to this account as well as follow up. TKS!

So, can anyone tell me how to make Star Office appear as (a) an icon

Fortunately, from 5.3 onwords, they appear to have employed a
