Of course... but it might not be such a good idea. Compile a new kernel,
with the "Prompt for development or experimental code" and "NTFS
read-write support (EXPERIMENTAL!)" options enabled. You can probably
make the read-write support a module. Then just mount the NTFS partition,
and you should be able to read and write to it. Read the warnings! The
driver is still not ready for prime time and could trash your data if you
write things.
As for the subject line, I don't think Linus himself thinks too much about
NTFS...

Argh, I forgot:
$ setterm -foreground green ; setterm -background black ; setterm -store
...at least, it worked for me, ever after "man man" and "vim test". If
you want this all the time, put it in your .cshrc or .bashrc and have fun
with the retro look! Only problem is that bold still comes out as white,
but a quick perusal of the setterm man page should tell you what to put in
before the setterm -store....

Make sure you have the rpm for sendmail-cf installed on your system. Then
in the directories under /usr/lib/sendmail-cf/ you should find
documentation ( a long README ) and examples of source files for m4
processing.

Secrecy != obscurity. Secrecy is "*No one* but me knows my pgp passphrase,
and it is not recorded anywhere". Obscurity is "Well, my passphrase was
only in my .sig for a few days, and I only posted a few articles to usenet,
so probably nobody noticed".

Subject: Aureal vortex2 (8830) sound driver for Linux installation
Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 21:12:25 GMT
Hello,
I have a Dell Dimension PC with a Turtle Beach Montego II A3D PCI sound
card running Linux.
I downloaded the drivers from http://linux.aureal.com/ (v. 1.0.5) second
public release.
Then I uncompressed, untared, went to the directory, typed "make
install" (for a 8830 model).
And ... no sound. The makefile generates one error at the end, but just
iggnores it. So I guess
it's a non-fatal error.
Is there a way to check my installation ? my sound configuration ? I
must say I'm totally at using
sound under Linux.
Thanks if you can help at all.

I'm afraid you don't have a SCSI controller in your PC. Instead, you
have a PROMISE TECHNOLOGY INC. ULTRA66 *IDE* CONTROLLER, which the PC
seems to be telling you. So, your unknown SCSI controller is in fact a
well known IDE controller.
You might want to look up the Reading-HowTo for your next installation
of "Lunux".

First of all, you need to know why you want to try out Linux. If it's
only because somebody told you it's hip or a drop-in replacement for
Windows, you might as well forget about trying out Linux for now.
> do you recommend some edition of Linux?
Many people seem to believe that the current Mandrake Linux 7.0 is quite
good for beginners. My personal favourite is Debian GNU/Linux 2.2,
however.
> Can linux make faster in internet my pc?
Your Internet experience is only going to be as fast as your Internet
connection is. Linux won't make your 56k modem go any faster than with
Windows.

I had a problem a couple of times where the mouse/kb/monitor attached to

to telnet in from another machine, su as root and at that point I just

Try cntrl-alt-+ and cntrl-alt-- on your number keypad. That will switch
resolutions, *if* they're configured on your system. If you try that and
nothing happens, then you need to configure those settings using Xconf,
Xconfigurator, XF86Setup, xf86config, or whatever other confusing acronym of
a program reisdes in your computer.

Hi,
I think we all know about Netscape and crashes on java pages or
applications. So I downloaded Netscape 4.72
(communicator-v472-us.x86-unknown-linux2.2.tar.gz), installed it and tried
again. Also I checked about my fontpaths as indicated in an earlier post.
They seem to be ok.
I still experience the same problem: Running java application like Datek's
streamer (www.datek.com) causes Netscape 4.72 to crash as well.
Any one else having the same problem? Any solutions?
Thanks for your help

Hi all,
any truly guru types who can answer this for me. I'm not a C++
programmer... I go up to Perl and some oo stuff, so I don't really know
what is hapening here except I I have Mandrake 7.0 on a fresh partition
and it seems to fail to compile about half the KDE programs I send it.
Some of these I have compiled in Mandrake 6.1. I suspect it has
something to do with an instruction I can give it regarding a compiler
with the ./configure command, but I'm just in a crap shoot and guessing.
I've done some research and this is as far as I got. I have a definite
problem and I'd like to find an answer that makes me feel secure about
being able to compile any program and advising others with some
comfidence.
