Did you try searching for a qt*.rpm file in the RPMS directory of your disk?
I think it should solve many things....

Change your printer port to polling. The reason it is slow is because it
triggers many interrupts (status of ink etc.) see the 'tunelp' command.

If he is using KDM then I don't think the startx script will be being
called. I think the best bet is probably to add the clear command onto
the end of the command which shuts down kde. You say your distro is
debian based, so you want to find the file /etc/init.d/kdm. This file
should be in the following format:
......
case "$1" in
start)
......
stop)
......
restart)
......
In order to make the command run after kde has shut down then you want
to put it at the end of the stop) section.
Hope that does the trick,

No, after all, "all the changes" would have to go back to Linux 0.1 or
whatever. The 2.2.14 patch contains exactly the differences between 2.2.13
and 2.2.14. _If_ you are starting with 2.2.5, then you need all of the
patches starting with patch-2.2.6. However, be warned that the source code
shipped by your distributor may not be exactly the 2.2.5 code provided by
Linus Torvalds, and if so, patching may be difficult. (It is fine to get
the full sources, of course. Also be aware that the next 2.2 kernel may be
coming soon; Alan Cox has released 10 pre-patches on the road to 2.2.15.)

Reading the BogoMIPS docs, I see that Cyrix 586 x100 's are listed as
giving BogoMIPS values of about 100. I get about 30 on my system. Am I
suffering a performance problem?
Does the BogoMIPS routine use the kernel, ie would recompiling my kernel
speed things up? It's compiled for a 486. Isn't that right?
Thanks. :)

Subject: Problems with DELL 4300's and RedHat
Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 19:21:18 -0500
I've been having problems with a recently purchased DELL 4300
preinstalled with RedHat 6.0. In an attempt to resolve these problems I
have been in contact with DELL and have attempted to contact RedHat but
they don't seem to read their e-mail there so I figured I'd ask out
here.
Firstly, is there anyone out there who has actually successfully
gotten a response from RedHat on an e-mail support contract? If so, let
me know how you managed to get to somebody.
Anyways, here's the message I sent to RH. If anyone has any ideas
please let me know.
=========================================
I've been fighting with this problem for the past week and after going
through DELL tech support they told me to contact you guys.
Here's the problem.
We recently purchased a DELL Poweredge 4300 server pre-installed with
Redhat 6.0. Incidently, the 4300 is on the list of Certified Hardware
for RH 6.0. The system was working fine until we installed and
attempted to use a second hard disk in the 8x1 backplane. As soon as
you attempt to access partitions on both hard disks at the same time
corruption occurs - usually trashing the partitions you were just
accessing and forcing a re-install of the OS. This is 100%
reproducable. Infact, if you attempt to perform an install of all
components and have it automatically mount partitions on both disks the
install will fail 100% of the time. It does not matter what hard drives
you use - I have performed installs on both disks and they work
perfectly
until you attempt to access the second drive (ie: by mounting it or
using fdisk to modify the partition table).
I went through all of the DELL provided hardware diagnostics and
everything checked out. Not conviced, I then proceeded to attempt
installing RH 6.1 which also gave the problems. I then installed NT4.0
on the system and it appears to work perfectly and access both hard
disks with no problem. So, in my opinion what is wrong is one of 2
things. 1) The DELL 8x1 backplane is faulty but NT somehow manages to
mask this or 2) Redhat (Linux) does not support the backplane
technology.
What I need to know is, has Redhat ever tested their product in a DELL
4300 with multiple hard disks? If they have and it works, I need to
know so I can get the hardware replaced by DELL. If they have never
tested this how can you possibly be including an OS with a machine that
can't scale to multiple hard drives?
Please respond ASAP.

The root ftpers directory is set by whatever the home directory is in
/etc/passwd (well in slackware anyway)
so if you edit /etc/passwd and change the home directory of ftp from
/home/ftp to /usr/local/ftp then all should be sweet.
Any other questions ask in group as I'll be reading it all day.

Usually you can get at them by reading the HTML. IIRC, the HTML usually
contains a reference to a .rpm file (nothing to do with Linux RPM) which
is text-based, containing the name of the .rm file, which is the thing
you want to save. Realplayer can play them from disc, it doesn't have to
come from a server.

I'll rephrase that question since I am using a limited number of Linux

Are there applications for Linux that have a 'print preview' similar to
that of the Windows print preview?
You click on the icon and you get a screen that shows you what the

Technically, if you are mainly looking at command-line stuff, you
could install Linux on an old 8088. I'm not sure why you'd want to,
but... :)
As for me, I'm running RedHat Linux 6.0 on an i486/66MHz with 20MB ram
