Yes. But what did the package's installations tell you to do? Not all
programs use "configure" scripts.

No. make(1) is a standard unix utility, and you should be able to find
a "make" package on your installation medium.

(To build programs you also need a complete development environment,
including the compiler, binutils, and libc development packages.)

This is already done for you. Check back at www.psionic.com and get
'logcheck'. This can be configured to watch any log for any message
using regular expressions and then sends you mail. It is already set up

Hi there,

This is a long shot, but here goes. We have some ageing Wyse 370
terminals. They're beginning to die, and we don't want to shell out
$1000+ for each new terminal. Does anyone know of some Linux software
that will emulate a Wyse 370 terminal?

Thanks!

Well, doing it at a quiet time is easy enough. We can guarentee no one

Connecting via ftp results in a long hang. Running df results in a long
hang. I have seen other hangs too, especially in the startup of apps
sometimes where the load rises but there is no disk activity. The setup
is a 4 gig ide drive which has everything but /home on it, /home is on a
4.5 gig scsi drive connected to an adaptec 2940uw. There are no
messages in /var/log/messages that help out. I am thinking it is the
result of a problem with the mounting of filesystems, here is the output
of df :

/dev/hda6 2063504 1388780 569904 71% /
/dev/hda5 15493 1261 13432 9% /boot

/dev/sda1 4372108 306424 3843588 7% /home
df: /mnt/floppy: Input/output error
df: /mnt/cdrom: Input/output error

Any pointers as to what I should be looking at? I thought maybe
supermount was doing something so I disabled it but I noticed no change.

'screen' seems to be what you're looking for...
Very usefull program. Especially if you're logging in over a modem, because
you can leave it running, disconnect and reconnect later with the screen and
all the programs running on it still there.

Mutt handles POP3 account without any problems if you compile Mutt for
POP3 support, have right permisions on /var/spool/mail/$HOME and set
fnlock appropriately(Makefile I think) You may try to comp.mail.pine. There
is also a mailing list on Mutt. It's really a powerfull emailer.
Pine checks POP3 accounts too...

What ? Mutt or Pine ? Mutt cannot send email using SMTP of your ISP, you
can't change it, however Pine does that. If you have problems with Pine
than your Pine is misconfigured. If you mean SMTP on your machine, than
SMTP is certainly misconfigured.

I think sendmail

For the begining accept all defaults. It should work. Consider Exim,
Qmail or Smail, easier to configure.

Pine is a good choice if oyu want a mailer more powerfull than Kmail.
I like Mutt, however you'll need Postfix, Smail, Exim or so, installed
on your machine if you want Mutt. I don't like pure Sendmail, but you
may use it.

Following is based on a SLACKWARE installation and the files may be
somewhat different, but:

Did you create a spool file? Something like
mkdir /usr/spool/lpd/some name for your printer

Does it have the right ownership and permissions? If you do not have
the x (execute permission) nothing will work.
        chown root.daemon /usr/spool/lpd
chown root.daemon /usr/spool/lpd/some name for your printer
        chmod ug=rwx, o=rx /usr/spool/lpd
chmod ug=rws, o=rx /usr/spool/lpd/some name for your printer

Did you create the additional files in your spool directory?
cd /usr/spool/lpd/some name for your printer
        touch .seq errs status lock
chown root.daemon .seq errs status lock
chmod ug=rw,o=r .seq errs status lock

        Note:
You use "touch" to create files and establish the creation
date for files. You need all four of the files
(.seq errs status and lock). The .seq file will contain the job
number counter for lpr to assign. errs is the place lpd sends errors
for logging. status is the file that contains messages that will be
reported when you type: lpc stat. The lock file is used to prevent
lpd from trying to print two files on the same printer at one time.
Do you have these files? Note the "." in the ".seq" file. You can
only see it if you use ls -a. If you do not have these files then
create them with the touch command.

For WYSIWYG, Netscape Composer is about as good as you'll find for Linux.
Webmaker is probably the best Linux program with drop-down tags, etc., like
Homesite. If this is the kind of program you really want to use, then
you're better off working in Win/Mac with Dreamweaver, and Homesite or
BBedit.

Gee, that's a new one. (If you really do have Tourette's syndrome, you're
excused.)

The term "wannabe" is for adolescents.

But, I will concede that Frontpage is junk.
