I use hedwig, and it works fine. The gui is a bit, uh,
surreal with only 16mb of ram, but in terminal mode,
it gits along pretty well.
I use it as a firewall/ipmasq macheen.
Go for it. Cost vs. Benefit a big plus.
The hardest part was installing it without a cdrom.
I did an NFS install.

Hi,
        I saw some articles 8-9 months ago about Linux for PA-RISC arch. It is
there and built by HP. I am not sure why they are not saying this in
Public. They might be afraid of M$. They might tell this in PUblic after
the outcome of M$ anti trust trial.

        Search on the net. You might find it. If I will come across then I will
post in this or comp.os.linux.hardware newsgroup.

No, you set the "proper" router (whatever that is) as the gateway. How
you do email depends on what email server is going to be on NT. If it is
a pop3 server or exchange with pop3 enabled then it'll work just like an
ISP mail server.

Hi,

I have been using Zircon IRC client on my system for a while. It is a Tcl/Tk
application. This works fine, when I invoke it as root, but for any other user
it gives the following error message:

(1)user1@myhost:~ => zircon
Error in startup script: can't find package interp 8.0

"package require -exact interp [info tclversion]"
    (file "/usr/local/bin/zircon" line 24)

The Tcl/Tk version on my system is version 8.0

Can someone please let me know how to fix the above error? I want other users
to be able to use this excellent app.

Thank you in advance.

RedHat 6.0 shipped with glibc2.1 as its main library, so in general, you'd
say your system was a "glibc2.1" system. If you have a question about
a specific binary, then the ldd command is your friend:
$ ldd x-povray
        libpng.so.2 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libpng.so.2 (0x4001e000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x4003b000)
        libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x40058000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40102000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
so x-povray is linked with libc.so.6 and libm.so.6 (glibc2.1 in this case)
and the PNG and X11 libraries. ldd won't follow symbolic links, so if
/lib/libc.so.6 is a symlink (which it is in my system) then you may have
to manually trace it with ls -l:
$ ls -l /lib/libc.so.6
       /lib/libc.so.6 -> libc-2.1.2.so
so this is glibc2.1.2.  HTH,

Yes, LILO is able to dual boot Linux and Win2000.

I regularly triple boot:

/dev/hda (0x80) (27Gb drive)
     /dev/hda1 win2000 boot partition    ***
     /dev/hda5 linux swap partition
     /dev/hda6 linux 2.2.5 kernel   ***
/dev/hdb (0x81)  win2000 partitions
/dev/hdc (0x82)  (17Gb drive)
     /dev/hdc1  win2000 partition
     /dev/hdc5  linux 2.2.12 kernel   ***

LILO version 21.3 is used to avoid the need for /boot to lie below the
1024 cylinder limit on the 27Gb & 17Gb disks. If you can place /boot
below cylinder 1024, the LILO version 20 or 21 should work fine.

--John Coffman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Lilo 21.3 was announced 8-Mar-00 on comp.os.linux.announce.

It is also at ftp://sunsite.unc.edu /pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo

All right, I was led astray by an experience a few months back... in
response to unexplained network screwiness, one thing I tried was wiping
resolv.conf, re-creating it and forgetting to put the search line in.
Still didn't work. Put the search line in; things began working. Later
traced that particular problem to the ISP's DNS boxes becoming
unresponsive for 5-10 minutes at a time at random times. They're working
on it.[0] The "search" line paranoia stayed in--voodoo config file
editing, I guess. Excuse me, gotta take the chakra readings of the main HD
to make sure it's balanced properly :-)

In my boot.ini file, I have the following additional entries making references
to Linux:

[boot loader]
defaiult=c:\bootsect.lnx

c:\bootsect.lnx="Linux"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT ...

You could also designate one of your servers the primary, and tell

In kpackage there is a menu option under the pulldown menu "File" for
finding installed packages. Sorry can't remember the exact name and my
security is set so non-root accounts can't run kpackage, etc. When the
package is found, on the right side of the screen where the package
summary is given, click on the "files" tab just above the summary. This
will show where all the files are loaded. Kpackage does not determine
default directories. The rpm package developer identifies defaults and
kpackage carries out those instructions.

There are several programs that can do this. The most commonly used
one is xloadimage. Read the man pages carefully. Then insert this into
your X11 startup. For xinit, you put it in your /.xinitrc file. Here
is a piece of my X11 startup (I use xinit/startx with fvwm in MWM mode
and don't use a silly desktop manager):

sauron.deepsoft.com% more .xinitrc.csh
#!/bin/csh
# startup file for X
source .envs
setenv LOGGED_IN 1
xrdb .Xdefaults
set zoom = `echo 'scale=5\n1024/768' | bc`
set Yoffset = `echo "768-($zoom*512)"|bc`
set Yoffset = `echo "$Yoffset:r+1"|bc`
set zoom = `echo "$zoom*100"|bc`
set zoom = $zoom:r
xloadimage -quiet -border grey -background grey -onroot \
        -at 1,$Yoffset -zoom $zoom \
        RRImgs/dl270.jpeg

This plops a file in RRImgs named dl270.jpeg onto my desktop. The
arithmetic is intended to get the image to scale properly and be
positioned on my screen properly. The image has a different aspect
ratio than my screen and I don't want xloadimage to scale it to fit as
this will distort the image. The above leaves a grey band above the
image, which is mostly covered by my MWM-style IconBox (FvwmIconBox).

Ah, a different animal alltogether....

I'd buy another 6.5 GB HD and cp -a the whole thing to it. If you set
up the partitions the same as on teh original, you won't really have a
problem.

If you don't like cp -a, you cn use something like

/bin/tar cvf - -T /archive/log | tar xf - -C /archive

where log is a list of all the files you want to backup.

(I do much the same thing on my live server.)

A 6.5 GB ide drive is about $120 these days.

Although the above is correct (syntactically) the file bootsect.lnx must
first be created from your linux system (copy of the boot record image
created by lilo) and then copied to your NT partition so that "ntldr" can
read it.
