The 21164PC was the first Alpha chip to support MVI. MVI introduced
only 13 new instructions to the core.

Date: Sat, 03 Jun 2000 05:30:08 GMT

Netscape Communicator that came with my distro(Mdk 7.1 beta-3) is v4.73,
but without 128-bit encryption. So I got Communicator 4.73 with 128-bit
encryption for linux2.2(I hope this is the right one)
Anyways, my question is that if I install this one, I will have a two
versions of Communicator, right? so before I install the new one, I would
like to remove the old one which is in '/usr/bin'.

So, how do I exactly go about removing the old Communicator completely and
cleanly?

And, how do I disassociate the files to the old one and associate those to
the new one?

You help will be greatly appreciated.

THanks

Everywhere. Several such come with most distros. Which one do you want?

Sorry bro, nobody dare to answer your question because it's too technical.
Linux users mostly use Bourne Again Shell and can't get away with Microsoft
Windows as API. I suggest you back up your important files and re-install
TurboLinux as fresh install. In article <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,

Frequently when I try and post a news message using Slrn I get the
following message:

Your message is not acceptable for the following reason:
Line contains more than 80 characters. You need to wrap it.
This message was generated while looking at line 6:

I have to manually delete whole sections of the offending header to get
Slrn to post the message.

Is there a way to set up Slrn to post the message intact?

I am using Pico as my Slrn editor. Maybe this is the problem?

I have mysql installed on Linux box running Redhat 6.2. I have installed
the server, the client etc. I followed the New Riders Mysql by Paul Dubois.
Mysql version 3.20.32a-3.

I can get into the mysql prompt, but I cannot create or do anything even as
root. However, I can create databases using mysqladmin. The error message
is this; reproduced exactly:

ERROR: parse error near 'use test' at line 1

This message is for everything I tried to do. The 'use test' line is
replaced by whatever command I give it. For example 'create database shops'
will generate the error;

ERROR: parse error near 'create database shops' at line 1

I can use some commands like show, desribe but forget any create or any
other useful command. What is distrubing is this happens even as root. What
is the problem. Please help.

Thanks a heap in advance for all the help.

Man rpm. That's what it's for! It's the package manager of your distro.

Go into kde and start kpackage. Click on "netscape" or some such name
and choose "remove".

Karen,

First take a look at "/var/log/messages" and see if the system is
reporting anything after you try a telnet to localhost. If it is not
telling you anything take a look at the things I list below.

Do a "more /etc/inetd.conf" and make sure there is no "#" in front of the
line for telnet. If there is, remove the "#" with vi or your favorite
editor. Then do a "killall -HUP inetd"

Example of inetd
telnet stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.telnetd

Ok.. If it is still not working or your inetd.conf is correct, check and
make sure the telnet server is installed. On redhat 6.2 you should have a
file "/usr/sbin/in.telnetd" at 31376 bytes. Also do a "rpm -qa|grep
telnet" This should list at least two packages. telnet-0.16-6 and telnet-
server-0.16-6. The telnet server is what we are looking for. If the telnet-
server package is not installed you have your fix.

Oh also verfiy the inetd service is running. "ps aux |grep inetd"

I hope this info helps some... Please feel free to let me know..

Upgrading from 2.0.x to 2.2.x requires lots of upgrades in support

You have a problem in /root/XF86Config? (Usually this file is stored in
/etc/X11/XF86Config.) If you'll post your file, we can look at it and

I haven't used slrn for a while but in your .slrnrc there should be
this line:

set reject_long_lines 1

I think setting it to 0 will do the trick.

Looks like I am not going to get rid of this message.

First it wouldn't work on AIC7xxx. So I changed the SCSI adapter
with a 25G IBM EIDE HDD. It does the same .

System :
Compaq deskpro 2000 233 MMX
80 MB RAM
25Gb IBM EIDE HDD
RedHat 6.1

i am trying to do a kernel recompilation from 2.2.12 to 2.2.14. So I
download the source for 2.2.14 onto /usr/src and do :
make config
make dep; make clean
make modules
make modules_install
make boot (or make zImage or make bzImage)

inform /etc/lilo.conf of the changes, then /sbin/lilo
reboot and for the n'th time yes it doesn't boot. It comes
up with the wonderfull message
"cannot find root system, try passing the init= option blah blah . . ."
so I tried a mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.2.14.img 2.2.14
and naturally, passed the relevant info on /etc/lilo.conf.

Same thing. Any ideas anyone ?

I think you two are quite right, but I have installed linux on my system
about 4 times (because I ugraded 4 distributions) and needless to say
now I am tired. So, I will try to transform internally my actual RH 6.2
to a "general" linux system with many things but not too much crap.
Obviously it will probably be an impossible task, but always less
annoying and time-consuming than anything else.
