I'd like to know, too. And I've seen several other posts from folks who
have encountered the same problem. (On RedHat 6.2).

It makes me wonder if Corel Linux "experts" are forbidden to read Linux
newsgroups... or if they can't figure it out either. (Perhaps there
are no Corel Linux "experts", or maybe they were laid-off in the recent
cutbacks.)

Hi Owen,

I've been trying to get Exceed working with Linux off and on for the
last two weeks.
It seems alot of people have trouble getting Exceed to work in single
window mode
with Linux and its xdmcp setup. Do you have any other pointers? I'm using
kdm right now. I've
been trying to muck with the xdm files and such but haven't had much luck.
I'm using v 5.1 of Exceed and have tried it on Redhat 6.2, 6.0 and
Mandrake 7.1 from Windows 2k.

Thanks,

Rob

This won't help, but you should go to 2.2.16, due to serious security
bug in 2.2.15 and lower.

Is there anyway to save a terminal's (eg. rxvt) scrollback buffer to a

No one has answered you, so I, though I am not an expert, will try. You
should install Windows first, and then, using fdisk, Partition Magic or
another program create a partition or at least create empty space for
Linux. This is because if you install Linux first, Windows will overwrite
LILO and you won't be able to boot Linux except with a boot floppy. I
have not used Suse, but it is supposed to be an excellent distribution. I
expect that it will let you choose whether you wish to boot Windows or
Linux by default. You may want to do some reading about creating a
partition for Linux. This is the big problem for many people. After you
have done this, Suse will should you what to do when you run it. Linux
Installation and Getting Started is the document you want to read from the
LInux Documentation Project, or if you can get "Running Linux," by Matt
Welsh, et alii, all the better. If you have questions, e-mail me and I
will try to anwer them.

I'm not sure! In researching the problem the solution noted in
previous post was recommended in several threads. The original file
just needs to be re-written by the system I assume. After three days
of frustration and finally finding the instructions it worked the
first time for me. If all of Corels releases are like this none of
them will work with the first time use of KPPP.

Maybe you have something like an IRQ conflict.
Are these things compiled as modules? If so it should be pretty easy
to make them use different IRQs. If they're not plug-and-play,
you should be able to edit a file like /etc/modutils/options or
/etc/modules.conf, passing options like irq=5 to the module name.
If you have modutils you'll have to run update-modules.
If they are PnP you'll probably have to look into isapnp and then
do something similar.
In any case the files /proc/interrupts, /proc/dma, /proc/ioports might give
some hints. -chris

If you are using doubles prcesion floating point you should use
-malign-double.

I usually use:

-O4 -march=pentium -malign-double -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2

Yes. I did that wrong also and had problems with dialout. Mgetty does
NOT die when a dialout is done on /dev/ttyS1 and mgetty is running on
/dev/modem. If /dev/modem is linked to /dev/ttyS1 then mgetty "steals"
incoming characters.

That should not be the problem. If you don't do it, it answers
immediately (after 1 ring), at least my version does it this way.

You should increase the debug level in mgetty.config to 8 and look at
the logfile. You may send me your logfile via e-mail. Note that the name
of the logfile will be mgetty.ttyS1 if you switch to /dev/ttyS1.

Maybe you have disabled logins at all? In this case mgetty will ignore
incoming calls.
If a file nologin.<device> exists in the /etc/mgetty* directory, no
logins are allowed.

First you have to check /etc/inittab. Is the initdefault set to 5?
If yes, you can check the file /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers.
In this file the following sentence must be there:
":0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X" (without the quotes).

With kind regards,

Rule of thumb...

Install Windoz first. Make sure you use a small partition for the Windows
drive, say only 3 to 6 gig. Later, you can always add yet more windows
logical drives if you use and extended partitioning.

Then once it's all done, installed, tested and working good, then proceed to
install Linux. Make sure the "/boot" partition falls in there as the first
new partition, then swap, then everything else. Should be a maximum of 4
partitions on the drive, unless you create root, and the others in an
"extended" and logical partitioning scheme.

All this is talked about in the installation howto's that are typically
found on most Linux CD's.

Cheers;
Jeff

What do you want to do with it?
Do you want to just hold the newsgroups you and your friends read, or do you
want to handle a fuil newsfeed?

If it's the former, install Leafnode and follow the VERY SIMPLE
instructions.

If it's the latter, use INN. Of course, you'll also need a few gigs of hard
disk space and a very high speed connection to do that.

Wine isn't mature enough to handle a lot of the more complex windows
