How do you start the server? Do you use vncserver?

Could the message be:

sh: /usr/local/bin/vncserver: No such file or directory

by any chance? In that case check the first line, the path to
perl may be incorrect.

Hello there
My monitor resolution is 640x480 and I want to change it to 800x600
or upper level.
xconf didn't work for me, neither editing XF86Config.
when I was installing (RedHat 6.1) I tested all screen resolution that are
greater than
640x480 they didn't work.!
Can anyone tell me what is going on please?
I am running Windows98 on the same machine and it works fine with all
resolutions
Thanks in advance.

Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 10:22:21 +0300

Hi, everyone!
I have Red Hat 6.0 (kernel 2.2.5) and I upgraded (compiled) my kernel
to 2.2.12. After that, I made a new boot disk with 'mkbootdisk 2.2.12'.
I type 'rescue' in the Lilo prompt after I boot with my new boot disk
and when it's time to remove the boot disk and insert the rescue disk,
I get the following errors:
request_module[block-major-2]: Root fs not mounted
request_module[block-major-2]: Root fs not mounted
VFS: Cannot open root device 02:00
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 02:00

Did I forget to include something during the kernel upgrade?
Any help would be appreciated :)

Sachems, grandmothers, and hackers of all ages have obtained a
New York City Official Media Event Permit to peacefully assemble for the
redress of wrongs.

Monday 17 July 2000
10:30 am to 5:00 pm
Court Yard of the Federal Court
500 Pearl Street

Why are we demonstrating?

Because the Motion Picture Association of America claims they have the
right to dictate what software runs on your computer in the privacy of your
own house. Precisely, the Motion Picture Association of America says that
it is illegal to use DeCSS, a free DVD movie player, to watch a movie on
your computer. Even if you bought and paid for all of the following:

1. the computer hardware

2. the computer software

3. the DVD disk

Indeed, the Motion Picture Association of America claims that if you
rendered sand to slightly impure silicon, wrote the program which compiles
to masks for your cpu, made the chip in your own factory, and assembled the
rest of the hardware out of parts which you bought and paid for, and then
wrote your own DVD movie viewer that runs on an OS coded by you, that you
have no right to use your system to view even a single DVD disk that you
own.

This is analogous to book publishers claiming that books can only be read
by light supplied by them, which light you must buy from a tight oligopoly,
at oligopoly prices.

The Free Software Movement and most of the rest of the world will put a
stop to such outrageous harassment of movie lovers. But without quick
action now, it may take us a few years to suppress the would be thugs of
the MPAA. We want the harassment to stop. And we will stop it as fast as
we can.

We need your help.

Come on down!

In the OP post there was a reference to Direct print via port 9100
which is supposed to be available with the redhat printer setup
program. The option is there all right, but the printer backend
I have not been able to find anywhere on the RH6.2 CD, and whithout
the proper backend you can't use port 9100.

Of course LPRng has this backend built in, and it also appears that
LPRng is a much better solution than the bad old lpd package.
The LPRng package is the standard printer daemon on several linux
distributions, so one might expect it will come to redhat somtime
too.

Go to O'Reilly and look for "Mastering Regular Expressions".
It contains far more than you ever want to know, but it explains
the various flavours of regular expressions.

Yeah, you may be correct...however, coming from the "Old School", if
it's in their (Corel's) product/distro it's their problem too as far
as I'm concerned. If you are going to sell a product aimed at
inducing new users why ham-string them right out of the starting
block!!! It just doesn't make good business sense.

I am running Corel Linux OS Delux.
Corel Linux is powered by Debian Linux distribution
and a set of complimentary tools & utilities from GNU.
Corel Linux OS works great, however it is very, very slow.
Is there some way to make Linux OS faster !!!
Is there some system delays that I can get rid off?

I have standard 150 MHz Pentium System,

48 MB of RAM.
33K Robotics modem( Full modem - not winmodem)
Internet works great.

You don't need to. It will be instantiated automagically on receipt of mail.

Perhaps BSDi is using the ptyInitialErase resource of XFree86 xterm as designed
(it could account for that). RH & clones are using translations to override
the settings, which doesn't really work well except as a compromise between
old/new versions of xterm.

Could you also inform us which server is installed. The very basic VGA server
defaoults to 640x480
minimum, maximum and average. The make of your video card and the amount of
memory on it would help us to give more accurate solution.
See ya.

The old mpeg_play is the only one I know of.
Just today I tried to get mpeg_vga (named as such as not to conflict with
the X version of mpeg_play) to play a couple of mpegs I downloaded but
it failed. The X version played the files okay.

It is pretty old though, from 1994 I think.
You might find an archive called mpeg-linux.bin.tar.gz. The binaries
in there are from 1993!

Get the source and try it out.

Yes,

Fist type 'man mount'. Read and understand the following arguments,
then:

mount -t vfat /dev/hdxx /mnt/(dir of your choice)

...where hdxx is the designation of your windows drive.
Make sure you first create the directory where it will be mounted, this
is where you will find the files.

Good luck and enjoy,

Compile floppy disk support into the kernel (NOT as a module) if you're
doing a 2-disk boot/root floppy rescue system. If you want a rescue
system and don't want a lot of hassle getting it to work properly, visit
