No i did not try to log in as root as redhat does not allow you to do that.
As show in the text from the login screen show in my post, no username was
asked for. Thanks though.

I'd say first thing to do is run 'tcpdump' on the server to see if
traffic is getting to it at all. Next thing is to temporarily
disabling ipchains to see if it blocks any needed traffic. If that is
not possible, then enable logging on ipchains temporarily. The only
way to troubleshoot these network problems is with copius amounts of
diagnostics to help you pinpoint it. I once spent a whole week
troubleshooting a NFS problem which came down to one extra space in a
config file!

I think there is a thing on adobe's site that will let you convert files
into .pdf format. http://cpdf1.adobe.com/ is the address you need.

Do you mean an src.rpm? Installing this places the sources in
/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES, and the spec file in
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS.
You would then build the binaries with "rpm -bb --clean
mount.spec"; when done these would be placed in
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386 (typically).

Subject: KPPP Question
Date: Sat, 12 Aug 2000 20:13:06 -0500
I am new to Linux, I am trying the WinLinux 2000. The kppp seems to dial and
logon to my ISP OK, but from there the Netscape that was packaged with the
OS gives me error messages that it cannot find the server for the page I am
trying to load.
I have tried many attempts at configuring the dialer, but still Netscape
cannot find any servers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA, Mike.

'useradd -m username' adds a user and copies in some files (SuSE 6.4).
Unfortunately, typing 'login' in an xterm makes the xterm go up in a puff
of smoke. What did I miss?
