I'm having some trouble colorizing my prompt in tcsh. I checked the man
page, but that only gives me specifics on what the prompt contains, not
colors. I also consulted dejanews but couldn't find anything for tcsh. Can
someone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Brad

I have tried
echo 134217728 > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
The information I have found says this will increase the shared memory to
128mb
but this does not seem to do anything. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I know.

No problem here with the 80 min cd-r even in multi-session mode. My noname
disks were mfg by CMC; probably cdrecord couldn't identify the mfg on
your disks as it does some checking for something or other. Try some other
cheapos since they are cheap now.

Clifton,
Respectfully, I don't agree with you. I have been trying for weeks to
install a Netgear FA-311 card in Linux. I have read all kinds of HOW-TOs,
been to scyld.com, and researched the matter at various web sites ... but I
am unable to understand the instructions offered in any of these places.
Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful that instructions are there, but I am
having a devil of a time understanding something as basic as getting my
Linux operating system to work with my network interface card. Arctic Storm
is right -- in many places, Linux instructions are incomprehensible.
Kind regards,
Eric Bourland

This is the Linux Counter summary as of Wed Nov 1 00:41:36 2000
There are 159675 persons registerd.
3023 users have been registered by friends.
There are 83346 machines registered.
I guesstimate that between 0.2% and 5% of all Linux users have
registered with the Linux Counter.
So the total number of Linux users is probably between
3,193,500 and 79,837,500 people.

I had a similar problem earlier this year. I couldn't record anything
more than a faint hiss, even though I could listen to the sound on the
speakers.
I discovered, while trying desperately weird ideas, that I could record
when the audio source was connected to the microphone jack, but not
when it was connected to the line-in jack.
Weird, but it works.
I'm using a "Sound Blaster 16" Model SB4171. It's pretty old, the box
says it requires a 486DX-66 and 8M of RAM, with a P133
recommended... :-)
This machine does not have Windows, so I did not try that to see if
the line in worked under Windows.

The poster who suggested you might be out of inodes is likely
right. This is a known Mandrake 7.1 problem.
First go into /var/log/news and do a "find . | xargs rm -f" Expect it
to run for a *long* time. Then do the same in /var/log/news.
Then go to a Mandrake mirror site and download the
logrotate-3.3-9mdk.i586.rpm and the sysklogd-1.3.31-19mdk.i586.rpm
packages and install them.
That ought to prevent this.
Other than this and having to execute /etc/rc.d/init.d/crond stop and
/etc/rc.d/init.d/crond start when a user's crontab has to be changed
(this should *not* be required, and is not on any other Unix I've used
including Mandrake 7.0), I've been pretty pleased with Mandrake 7.1

And all should cry, Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice, And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed, And drunk the milk of Paradise.
