Sure. Before lots of people started using srpms, it was perfectly
normal in the kernel source installation to symlink the directories of
/usr/src/linux/include to /usr/include, like this:
# cd /usr/include
# mv linux linux-distrib # instead of deleting with rm -rf
# ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
# mv asm asm-distrib # again, instead of rm -rf
# # ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux/asm-i386 asm # for i386 systems
# machine specific.
# # Then repeat with scsi/, net/, and whatever else.
I'm not sure what adjustments you might need to make to
the include path. It's probably compiler dependent. Make
mrproper, however, should provide the correct order for
the include directories.

I don't think it's a source code issue, so much as an installation
issue. Not having RHL 7, I couldn't say what the installation is
or is not doing. Probably it's due to mixing the two up; otherwise,
I doubt that most people would know the difference.

No. It just checks the file system. The "EXT2-fs warning: checktime

a normal part of the EXT2-fs code.

Im installing mandrake 7.1 on an Asus CUSL2 Intel 815E Atx 733

format proceedure, the system hangs or sometimes reboots on its own, usually
at the latterportion of the hard drive.
does anyone have any ideas?

Not very helpful, I'm afraid, but I don't think that those integrated
video/motherboards are supported hardware with a RedHat linux
configuration. I know they weren't in 6.1 and 6.2; if the new hardware
compatibility check interface that RH has shoved off on us weren't so
cruddy, might be able to give you more info on RH 7.0
In any case, unsupported hardware may be your problem. If so, the only
fix I know is to replace it. OTOH, could be that SiS chipset. Some of
them are flat out unsupported, and even the ones that are nominally
supported can cause problems (with X itself, not just with the
particular linux distro). This chipset is listed as supported by X v.
3.3.6; however, I've experience with another 'supported' SiS chip that
required that we manually add a couple of lines to the config files to
get it to work properly. You used to be able to link to the X info
about SiS chips off the RH hardware compatibility page, but that link is
now damaged.
You may want to spend some quality time at the X website on this one.

Is it the _apps_, or the _look_ that you want?
If you want the look, use switchdesk as advised.
If you want the apps, just add them to your menu in whatever desktop you
want to use full time. I have KDE apps launching off the GNOME panel
and off the GNOME start menu. It's no problem at all.

How to install Sun's Star Office ?
I went to Sun's web site and downloaded the file

According to the Sun's instructions, I simply type the name of the file,
but when I do that, I get an error that no such command exists.
Any help would be appreciated.

I a running RH 7.0. I just installed it and was able to get connect

connect. I have a 3Comm external modem with little indicators. For
these indicators I can tell the computer is sending information a
couple of times. I can see the NIC card go up and down (by the green

I learned from a couple of HOWTOs about the -h foobar on the end of
pump. I added it to the ifcfg-eth0. Any one have any ideas when I am

TZ (if it exists) will override /etc/localtime (if it exists).
man tzset:
"If the TZ variable does not appear in the environment, the
tzname variable is initialized with the best approximation
of local wall clock time, as specified by the
tzfile(5)-format file /usr/lib/zoneinfo/localtime.
If the TZ variable does appear in the environment but its
value is NULL or its value cannot be interpreted using any
of the formats specified below, Coordinated Universal Time
(UTC) is used."
Substitute /usr/lib/zoneinfo for /etc where appropriate :)

Assuming you used mount to mount /dev/fd0 somewhere you simply 'cp' (as in
copy) the file(s) to wherever. Of course to write a file to a floppy you
either need to be root or it has to have proper file permission. For more
about mounting see 'man mount' and 'man fstab'.

No, the BIOS reports CHS 1110, 64, 32. PM under Windows reports the
same. DFSEE under OS/2 reports the same. I wouldn't mind betting that
both Solaris and FreeBSD fdisks report the same.
Linux fdisk is reporting 8709, 64, 32.
No prizes for guessing which one is wrong.

Err, no. I'm booting Linux from well below 1023 cylinders (the drive is
only 1110 cylinders). My linux /boot partition is the first on the disk.
I can still boot Linux OK, but I can't change the boot configuration

option).

That's from OS/2, using DFSEE (also exists for NT and DOS, though the

DFSEE, like I said above. I don't think the error is serious, nothing
checks is my guess.

If you see anything about One Nation Online (1nol.com) they just went
belly up. Freewwweb was the best, but they were taken over by Juno some
time ago.
I am using core.com for my out of town ISP, which was a bargain at $9.95
for unlimited service, but they doubled their rates to $19.95, while
upping personal webspace from 2.5 MB to 10 MB.
