Already tried everything I could come up with , but still can't get
write access to my samba share: (using RH6.2 and its build in samba
V2.0.6)
-opening up guest with write access
-added user root to smbpasswd , using same linux passwd
-added root to the write list
>From windows machines I can get into the share as guest , root or some
other user , all read-only:-((
root logged on the linux console has full access , so I guess
directory permissions can't be the problem.
Here's my current smb.conf , generated using swat
[global]
workgroup = CRONVILLE
netbios name = RH62
server string = Samba Server
interfaces = eth1 127.0.0.1
bind interfaces only = Yes
encrypt passwords = Yes
map to guest = Bad User
null passwords = Yes
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
os level = 65
preferred master = Yes
dns proxy = No
write list = root
[mpeg]
comment = MP3 files
path = /home/mpeg
read only = No
guest ok = Yes
Any hints welcome

I suspect the issue "may" be related to having one time held in the
hardware clock, and another in the system (software) clock. In Linux, these
can be very different. There is a way to sync these together, simply. The
man page on the command hwclock may be helpful. In your case it sounds like
maybe hwclock --systohc would answer this issue. It's really quite simple
to implement NTP (see xntpd) which ends all this forever. NTP will keep
everything synced together with time standard servers, of your choice.
I did a little page on this at http://gordo.penguinpowered.com

If you copy the image file with
cp -a /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz.new
you will preserve the correct permissions for the image file. Then you
must give lilo the correct path, of course (you have probably done
that), and run /sbin/lilo

Hi,
I have a dual boot system (windows98 and linux) on my box equipped with
abit KT7 raid motherboard. When I installed both OS, the harddrives were
connected to ide1 and ide2 connectors. After installing linux, I patched
ide.2.2.16.20000630.patch file for linux. Then, I connected the harddrives
to HPT370 (whose BIOS was upgraded to version 1.0.3) ide controllers. But,
I failed to boot any system. Of course, i could boot when the harddrives
were connected to Ide1 and ide2 connectors.
Is there any one who will show me how to do?
Thank you in advance.

I doubt it... However, look at the "binutils" texinfo file,
particularly the "strip" and "ranlib," "objdump" pages, to determine
whether the symbols were retained in the libraries. Also the "ld"
manual page and the Makefiles, if any, to determine if the linker
flags were responsible.

I tries this on 4 differents configurations and:
Mandrake 7.0 v1 ... OK
Mandrake 7.0 v2 ... OK
Mandrake 7.1 ... no
Mandrake 7.2 ... no
Suse 7.0 ... no
RedHat 7.0 ... no
I'm sure of that... It's not hypotetical... It's reality

Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000 16:00:23 +0100
Hello people, what a nice day for questions. I have the following
problems, if someone could help me.
I just installed Mandrake 7.2, everything seems to run smooth, excpet
one thing. When ever i run KwinTv or Xwatv, then, my mouse stops
responding to the clicks inside the program (i can't click anything
inside kwintv). I tried to change mouse, but it didn't work. Same
problem. Anyone has anyidea ?
Another problem i had was the following. The same application froze my
keyboard, and KDE2, i could just move the mouse around, but no way to
de-log from X11, nor kill the window manager with Cntrl-Alt-Backspace,
nor change terminal with cntrl-alt-Fx. In KDE1 there was a button to
delog from KDE, whenever things like that happened, were is it on KDE2 ?
(BTW the kill icon didn't work at all).
My second question is : How does linux manage 2 soundcards. I have 2
soundcards, one SB for allday use, and one Guillemot Fortissimo (based
on Yamaha chipset) for it's optical out whenever i want to record on a
MiniDisc.
How to i choose wich module to load, depending on wich card i want to
use. I can't just edit everytime my conf.modules (modules.conf) file.
Anyone with an idea ?
Thanks to everyone who has been patient with my post

Hi,
after installin SuSe 7.0 the XSVGA-Server doesn't go down properly:
whwn leaving the graphics mode the aadapter is not switched back

I've always used this X, keuboard & mouse worked flawlessly before. I've

DIsconnected ethernet (that was having unrelated problems); I know the boot

Agreed. They should write it in Java. That way, KDE and GNOME could run on
an array of embedded applications (such as the Palm pilot). We'll
see a lot less of Windows CE. I'm tired of seeing Windows CE running on
embedded applications.

Normally, you should be able to run fsck manually, without even
adding any special parameters, and give the default answers to
all the prompts. That almost always fixes the problem. The last
two times I had to deal with a machine in which it didn't work, the
hard disk had been damaged. You can try reinstalling Linux from
scratch, and if that doesn't work, you will probably have to replace
the hard disk.

There is cpuburn (http://users.ev1.net/~redelm/) and memtest86
(http://reality.sgi.com/cbrady_denver/memtest86/). While cpuburn tests
the cpu running under linux, memtest86 is testing Your main memory

So use Gtk--.
One nice thing about Gtk is that there are loads of
language bindings to it. Gtk::Perl seems to be becoming
very popular for cobbling together attractive GUIs
(beats Tcl, anyway)
I agree - Gtk macros are no substitute for a good
object model. But then I'm a Java boy originally, so from
my point of view C++ is an equally horrible kludge.
But then I go for Gtk because I like eye candy,
(KDE themes being a little weak) so what do I know?
