We lost power to our machine running RH 6.2.
( PIII 800, 13GB hd & 64MB ram )

We can not get a login to complete on the console and a telnet session
just keep display the login over and over. The console is display
the following message "unable to load interpreter /lib/ld-linux.so.2".
All the server daemons (httpd, sendmail, mysqld, etc..) work fine.
Any ideas.

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to use national fonts with Konsole?
With xterm it's easy: "xterm -fn FontName" , but I like konsole better.

Thanks in advance!

I managed to get all of the kde2 rpms installed on my RH7 box. Trouble
is when I try and start the kde desktop I get the kde2 splash screen,
the little kgandolf tip thing, but that's it. I am left with a frozen
gray screen, no toolbar, no nothing. the only thing I can do at that
point is ctrl-alt backspace to kill the x server and login with gnome.
Does this issue sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks

I have checked the related documents and I could set Samba to
log the user connecting time from the window clients to Samba.

Actually what I want to log is the time that window users
login to the window machines, is it still possible? My boss
want me to a attendant log by PCs' login time.

You can't... Nor, with xmms, do you have to. Just put the disc in, select
Play File and change to whatever directory that CD drive is usually mounted
on.  XMMS handles the rest.

Ive used purify way long ago for SunOS but it is not
currently (apparently) available for Linux.

Ive also tried upgrading to Linux 7.0 (which has memprof)
but that had a major malfunction with make here at work
so we are using RH 6.2 through our release date (early 2001).

Im in need of a free or bought memory leak etc detection software
tool for our Linux RH 6.2 code. Preferably free of course, but
Im sure a professional bought tool would be better. Whatever finds
the bugs we currently are dealing with.

Thanks in advance for any advice/info

Hi,

Just wondering, what would be the quickest (easiest) way to get Linux up
and running on a HP 9000 server? I presume there aren't
any nice distros? Does Linux work on it at all?

The Java Development kit (as developed by HP for HPUX) is not stable

on the server and using Sun's JDK on it.

Thanks,

Sorry to crosspost, but I'm just itchin to dual boot...

Can I use Loadlin in WinME to boot my linux partition (i.e. boot to WinME,
then run loadlin via a bat file to boot linux) The how-to's say I
should edit the properties of the bat file to require switching to MSDOS
mode, but that option no longer exists under WinME. I'd just try it, but I
wonder if there is any harm to be done here...

Good point. Because I then have to graphically display the results in
various charts, plots, etc. So I looked into graphics, which led to
windowing environments, thus to X, Qt, GTK+, and other confusions...

It sounds like your /dev/cdrom may be pointing to the wrong device, remember
that /dev/cdrom is just a symbolic link to the real device.

Is your CDrom SCSI or IDE?

dmesg | grep CD <enter>

If IDE, where is it connected?

dmesg | grep hd <enter>

hdc: MATSHITA CR-585, ATAPI CDROM drive
hdd: HP CD-Writer+ 7100, ATAPI CDROM drive
(the above if from one of mine - YMMV)

To manually mount a CDrom, you must have the iso9660 filesystem installed as
a module;

/sbin/modprobe isofs <enter>

OR, it must be compiled into the kernel.

Next, you must have an unused mountpoint; do you have a directory called
/cdrom? If no, make one;

mkdir /cdrom <enter>

Lets try a manual mount using my CDroms as an example;
(be sure to have a data CD in the drive)

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /cdrom <enter>

Did that work?

ls -l /cdrom <enter>

Good.

Now lets replace your /dev/cdrom symbolic link;

rm /dev/cdrom <enter>

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom <enter>

Let have a look at your /etc/fstab, should like like this;

...
/dev/hdc  /cdrom  iso9660  noauto,ro  0  0
...

Remember to change "/dev/hdc" to whatever your CDrom is.

Best regards,

Brian

Subject: MODPATH doesn't work - modules still not loaded
Date: Wed, 15 Nov 2000 12:00:22 -0700

Hello,

I want to set my development machine to have multiple
kernels that I can boot to. I don't need different versions
of kernel, but only 2.2.14 compiled with different
options (e.g. with/without kdb).

So I have two kernel images, default and debug. I also
compiled modules for both of these kernels and configured
lilo like this:

image = /boot/vmlinuz-pc97-2.2.14-modular
        label  = linux
        root   = /dev/hda1
        vga    = 274
        read-only
        append = "debug=2 noapic nosmp"

image = /boot/bzImage-debug
        label  = debug
        root   = /dev/hda1
        read-only
        append = "MODPATH=/lib/modules/2.2.14-debug/"

If I boot to debug kernel, 'cat /proc/cmdline' shows this:

BOOT_IMAGE=debug ro root=301 MODPATH=/lib/modules/2.2.14-debug/

but modules are not loaded. Also, I have this in my /etc/modules.conf:

path[usb]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`/`uname -v`
path[usb]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`
path[usb]=/lib/modules/
path[usb]=/lib/modules/default

but this should affect only USB modules, which I don't use.
What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Damir

I tried installing them as well,(I posted another message on this

KDE1,KDE2,Enlightenment,Default,Gnome.

I have no choice between all of them but that one big choice. When it

automatically backs out.

Yes..
i removed KDE1 first installed the KDE2 rpms, and it ofcourse didnt
find some lib*** files
I found out what i needed was libmng**.rpm, and the latest QT-2.2.**.rpm
(and i ofcourse dont remember where i found them now, but it was pretty
easy..just search at google.com)
But its worth it, KDE 2 rules

I guess the best way of doing this is going to init 3 and doing all the
replacements. If you can't find a library, then download it at
www.rpmfind.net

Also I guess you should install all the rpms from one directory as
rpm -hiv *.rpm

Would anybody do this different - webbgroup

I'm not familiar with Netport exactly, but on all the print servers I've seen
there are a number of port numbers for each physical port. In other words, a
JetDirect print server uses port 2501 for the first serial port and port 2502
for the parallel port. It uses port 9200, I think for a TCP/IP lpr port for
TEXT. Consult the documentation to see the port address of each physical port
on the server.  Good luck.

Once you have all the modules installed and have installed the TV program
,then need to configure the TV program. Depending on where you live you have
to tell it whether to use PAL or NTSC, Cable or Standard, etc. How to do
this depends on what program you are running. There are two I use, Xawtv and
Kwintv. Both default to PAL so if you live in the US and use NTSC you will
have to change that. There is a great HOWTO called the BTTV MiniHOWTO, it is
on the Linux Documentation Project website.
