I believe that rawrite has to be run from DOS (not a DOS window). So you
need to boot from a floppy (with cdrom support if you need that).

However, since the data is written sequentially (no file system), you have
to make sure that the floppy is perfect. So first do a 'format a: /u' and
make sure it has NO bad sectors.

Hello,

I am looking for a solution to send an email in response to an email being
sent to a dedicated email address. The response is supposed to contain
attachements.

It looks like I could use a listserver, but maybe there are other solutions
as well. Furthermore, not all list servers will handle attachements, or am
I wrong? Can somebody give me advice on this?

TIA,

Hi. I'm hoping that someone can tell me a simple way to do high
resolution wall-clock timings in GNU/Linux (on an Intel based machine).
Using something like the time() system call won't cut it, because its
granularity is seconds, and I want to measure fractions of seconds. I'm
looking for something like the clock_gettime() function in Solaris, but
I don't know if an equivalent function exists in a Linux environment.
Can anyone help me out?

I am trying to do an install or Oracle using their Java GUI installer and am getting
an error. I can't even read the error because
the monitor is so fuzzy. The monitor is fine - it is sharp and clear under Windows.

Is there a way to sharpen it up so I can troubleshoot the actual error? I looked
under the system settings and don't see anything.

Try going to support.cai.com and go to Support Forums. Register
yourself for free then you can enter the exact area for your version of
ArcserveIT and the OS. Search for your question there or leave your own

You didn't say what version of X you installed.
I would run it up in runlevel 3 and then manually
try Xconfigurator until I found a setting that
worked. It's a good idea to start with a conservative
version of X, eg. 3.3.6 without h/w acceleration.

I second the PuTTY recommendation, to quote, "It makes Windows useful"
(Think about it).

If you are going to spend a lot of time on a Windows box and want a
nice Linux environment displayed back from another machine, look into
VNC (http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/), if you run it full-screen,
it's like you are sitting at the Linux machine, all your X programs
will work just like you'd like. The performance penalty is noticeable,
but not too bad over a 10M network.

Well just to follow up,
I did get the soundcard to work properly. A couple of things i noted for
anyone who is curious. The sndconfig in mdk 7.1 works just fine and got the
card. Only problem was when i went to the other console by pressing
ctrl-alt-f3 (becasue it says it does not like X in the beggining) it really
screwed up the /etc/isapnp.conf and /etc/modules.conf file removing the info
on the ethernet card and USB ports (good thing it was kind enough to make a
backup).
I had to restore the back up files and just ran the probram from xterminal.
Which worked fine for me and the problem went away. And no i did not have to
reboot :)

Helps to give which distro (Redhat, Slack, Suse,...) and release (4.7, 7.0)
when ever you post. Commands, file locations, links vary amoung distros.

You also need to make sure you give exactly what you used when
typing. For instance. ttS0 should be ttyS0.

Have you used control-panel or linuxconf to setup the modem?
Have you used minicom to verify that the modem is accepting commands?

The problem sounds familiar. There was an error that would pop up early
on when installing Oracle under Enlightenment. There was some problem
with the way Java interacted with X. The fix was to use a different
window manager.

Another suggestion is to reconfigure X to a lower resolution, which would
make the font at least a little easier to read.

Should be your graphics card or monitor resolution set wrongly. Perhaps u
should configure your XWindows only AFTER u install Mandrake 7.2.
This is because after u install and everything boots up fine in text mode, u
can do a linuxconf and be able to TEST CONFIGURATION when u alter your

Hello,
I am facing a crisis. Please read on...

I am a running a Linux server which is connected to internet. I am hosting
some websites. However some sites need to run a few application servers
which linux do not support. Linux server running APACHE. MASQ Machines
running win2k with IIS.

I have:
A Linux server --> SWITCH --> MASQ Machines

What i want (the domain names are just examples):
1. www.sql123.com runs on MYSQL with PHP. --> hosted on linux server
2. www.coldfusion123.com runs on coldfusion for win2k with MYSQL. -->
hosted on win2k MASQ machine.

Is it possible for APACHE on Linux server forward TCP requests to win2k MASQ
machine if user types in www.coldfusion123.com, and serves requests if user
types in www.sql123.com ???

I know that APACHE supports virtual hosting in which different sites are
pointed to different directories on linux. But can it point to the IP of the
MASQ machines??

I finally got everything to work, including IP masquarading and nfs. All the
bogus routes were due to screwed up RH scripts. Never again will I ever
configure network with linuxconf. Just ifconfig and route will do. The
EtherPower still does not connect to the other pc (3com) but it is connected
to the cable modem, and although the led still doesn't light up, it works just
fine.

Just a small problem though, which I believe it's basic, but I can't figure it
out. Although all connections are fine, I simply cannot telnet or ssh from
machine B into machine A (the latter does the IP masquarading) (but I can ping
between the two, run nfs, or even write this message). I can, however, telnet,
ssh from my school account into A but not from B to A. Telnet from A to B
works fine.

Here's the ipchains output on machine A (192.168.1.1):

2) root:~> /sbin/ipchains -L -n
Chain input (policy ACCEPT):
Chain forward (policy DENY):
target prot opt source destination ports
MASQ all ------ 192.168.1.0/24 0.0.0.0/0 n/a
Chain output (policy ACCEPT):

The script I'm using is the very basic one from the IP Masquarading HOWTO. So
packets coming from the local net will be masquarading, but then I don't know
what happens to them. When I telnet I do get a "Connection closed by foreign
host." message, which entails that packets are not denied, but rather
rejected. Nothing in the ipchains rejects anything. Anyone any idea what this
could be?
