Just use fetchmail to fetch email from all your accounts and deliver it
to your local mail spool. You can then use whichever email client you
like to read it.

Hi ,
I would like to modify Red Hat modules collection , modules.cgz , of
initrd.img at Red Hat Linux installaion with floppy disk . And refer to
http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/KickStart-HOWTO-9.html
It describes how to uncompress modules.cgz archive :
# gzip -dc /mnt/initrd/modules/modules.cgz >/tmp/modules.cpio
# cpio -itv <modules.cpio >modules.listing
# mkdir modules
# cpio -idumv <../modules.cpio

But not mention how to recreate the modules.cgz.
If you know how to do it or how to make a floppy disk for
Red Hat installer on "expert mode" to insert module ,
please tell me. Thanks a lot !!

I think I would start with installing Linux on the second machine.
There is a lot of information at the Linux Documentation Project. My
guess would be that the following HOWTOs would be a good place to start:
Reading-List, Networking-Overview, Intranet, Installation. There are a
lot more, too (as you will see).

Good luck on your project. G.

Linux does have the same facilities, and there are other options also.
Check the printing HOWTOs available at the Linux Documentation Project.
I found apsfilter to be a good way to get everything working, but I'm
not sure it's what you will need. Good luck. G.

'nice' is supposed to _reduce_ your priority by a given amount, so
  nice 2
would be two priority levels lower than your current priority.

This means that to increase your priority, you have to nice by a
negative number (i.e. reduce your priority by a negative amount).

Well, I'd have thought their glibc patch would have obviated this
necessity. & that the diagnostic would not take the form of "Command not
found.". & I suspect rather than track down the source for all my odd
little private shims & scaffolds that will need recompiling I'll just
reinstall 6.1, & never go near Redhat again.

Or is this some glibc version skew rather than a red hat thing?

This say that 8:00 every weekday, email the ipaddress to you. To edit
the cron file, use 'crontab -e' or there are some nice gui editors
like in KDE which make it a snap to set the timings.

Hello,

Well i have this tiny little question about my Mandrake box. I noticed
that 7.2 always runs something when you first boot up your machine and
the HDD "works" for about 1-2 minutes. I'm not sure what it is (if
someone could give me a hint..thnx). But yesterday it went crazy, when i
logged into X, 1 minute later my HDD begun to work (like everytime), but
this time it totally freezed my mouse and keyboard. I couldn't even kill
X etc etc. From time to time the mouse movements (in the buffer) were
executed. It freezed so much that even the clock stopped tiking. But
there was activity, the HDD "worked" like a crazy. It lasted 1 hour
until i pressed the reset button and terminated this. I haven't reboot
yet and don't know if it is goign to "strike" again. Anyone PLEASE has
an idea on what is going on here ?

Thank you

(PS sorry for not posting on alt.linux.mandrake but i have no acces to
it :( )
thnx again

Subject: Re: lilo and win98
Date: 19 Dec 2000 09:25:44 GMT

Well, I can tell you what the cause of your problem is, for what
it's worth. The DOS system is successfully loading into memory, but
when it comes time to start the command interpreter (ie shell), it
can't find it and can't continue. The reason it can't find it...
well, I don't know. I've never caused this problem by modifying
a *different* partition before. I remember that error message back
from my DOS hacking days, though. I got that when I accidentally
deleted the command.com file (usually should reside in your root
directory, by the way, often times a copy is kept in \windows\ or
\windows\command\

You can easily reproduce this error by doing the following with a
floppy disk. (It works with hard disks too, but you don't want to
do that on purpose)
- Insert a blank floppy.
- sys a:
- del a:*.*
- Boot from the floppy.

Basically it makes the disk bootable, copies the 'kernel image' and
such to the floppy. Then you delete everthing except for the hidden
files (msdos.sys, io.sys, etc) and are left with a system that boots
then chokes because it's missing the user interface. Perhaps this
little activity can give you some ideas as to what caused you're own
problem.

If you're looking to "fight the illness by fighting the symptoms,"
well then you need to put a copy of a command interpreter where the
DOS kernel can find it. Preferably in C:\

Just boot from a floppy and 'copy a:\command.com c:\', assuming
that the boot floppy is running the exact same windows version
as the system. Otherwise you'll screw things up by doing that.
So make sure.

Another point to muse about is why the system is looking for
command.com in the first place. Command.com is the command line
interpreter. You're likely looking for the graphical environment.
I think (maybe someone else can confirm this) that the file you're
really looking for is c:\windows\win.com, not command.com.
Try either or both of the following:

- Hit F8 immediatly after telling lilo to load windows. From the
menu that pops up choose step-by-step confirmation and see where
the system poops out. As always, look for anything peculiar. Try
different possible avenues to the startup procedure (when it asks
you "Do you want to ___") and see if you can figure out what's
causing your dilemma.

- Boot from a floppy (or just mount the drive into linux) and check
to see if c:\windows\win.com is there. You can also check for
command.com for the hell of it. Maybe you're discover something
interesting.

I honestly can't figure out what installing Linux could have done
to create this problem, so it's tough to suggest a solution. The
damage was most likely done from windows by somehow deleting the
wrong file. Bad media is also a likely suspect. I once installed
window 3 times (all the same day) on a machine before figuring out
that my disk had a bad block and was messing up my files. Scandisk
can fix that.

Finding the missing file and copying it from another source could
very well solve your problem. OTOH, it's been my sad experience
with Microsoft that a reformat-reinstall is the only way to fix some
problems.

Good luck and come back if you find something new.

Perhaps. An IDE drive normally reserves an unseen portion of the drive to
automatically map into any bad sectors. If you suddenly notice bad
sectors that you never noticed when using that part of the drive before,
or an increasing number of bad sectors, it could be a dying drive. Best
to backup anything essential that you have not backed up already.

I have only had 2 drives go bad, 1 within a month of purchase (213 MB
Maxtor long ago) and a 2.1 GB WD that started getting bad sectors when 3/4
full (apparently screwed up near the center). Warranty replacements of
both never had any problems. In fact the replacement 2.1 GB has been
running Linux 24/7 and, although, I switched to another distro on another
drive, I still use swap on that drive.

On the other hand, I was having trouble with interrupt timeouts on that
drive that eventually got to the point that I could not shutdown. I
discovered that the inlet grill to my inlet fan was totally blocked with
lint. Clearing the lint cleared the interrupt problems with no data loss,
except for a lapse in the logs.
